7Sixty releasing Western version of HurricaneX2 on XBLA as Kung Fu Strike

Rumors of developer 7Sixty being hard at work on a kung fu project, based on the Chinese game HurricaneX2, are true. The game is coming to an Xbox Live Arcade near you as Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise. The teaser trailer above doesn't show much in terms of gameplay, but you can see the screenshots below for more (and there's gameplay of the Eastern version out there as well).

The title looks like a quick and stylistic arcade beat-em-up, a genre that certainly has its fans. 7Sixty says the game, which comes with local co-op and versus modes, is showing up on XBLA "early this year." Expect to see more "very soon."

Users report reset glitch in Gotham City Impostors

It seems Gotham City Impostors might not have gone through quite the same ruthless training and disciplined regimen that Bruce Wayne did before he became Batman. An admin on the game's official forums recently posted about a potential glitch in the game that resets earned stats and unlocked content, and that thread has earned itself a whopping 63 pages of irate customers on both Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Just losing your stats in the game is a waste of time, but some of those customers bought and paid money for XP boosts and other items to help them level up, which means they're losing that money as well.

Another official forum post suggests that the problem arises when the trial version of the game is converted into the full version. We've contacted WBIE for more information on the glitch. If you're thinking about unlocking the full game or have a lot of stats saved up already, you might want to step gingerly until a fix is out.

Binary Domain has you covered on creepy Japanese kids

Binary Domain's got tough-as-nails, future-armored soldiers, with deep emotional bonds. It's got cool evil androids everywhere. It's even got anachronistic gangsters. What else could it possibly need?

If you just said "a band of scary Japanese children who scavenge for weapons," you're really going to love this trailer. But, then again, you've probably already seen it while you were working on the game.

Syndicate's launch trailer reminds us how messed up the violence is

You remember that first time you saw the Syndicate dude make a security guard dude shoot himself in the head? Surprise, surprise, it doesn't get any less messed up when you see it performed in subsequent trailers, as evidenced above.

Achievements suggest Assassin's Creed: Revelations single-player DLC

[image]Just because Ubisoft announced a new Assassin's Creed is coming out on October 30 doesn't mean it's completely forgotten last year's installment, Revelations. Ten new achievements for an unknown Revelations DLC pack were spotted by Xbox 360 Achievements, appearing to be for the single-player campaign. They include crossing the River Styx without dying, landing on a block after falling 25 meters, and "Breaking the Loop," one of two secret achievements.

Ubisoft may be gearing up to release a new version of Revelations, as UK retailer Game briefly listed the Ottoman Edition (with "free downloadable content") and online market AWX is advertising the same version with a release date of March 16, CVG notes.

The previous two DLC packs for Revelations, Mediterannean Traveler and Ancestors Character Pack, have been multiplayer-centric. Perhaps the new DLC will bridge the gap between Desmond's Revelations arc and the new story -- not that he would need a bridge, but still.

Techland's 'Project Haste' is Mad Riders, looks like Nail'd

Remember Project Haste, the Ubisoft ATV racer from Nail'd developer Techland? It has now been revealed to be Mad Riders, evidently the same one recently rated in Australia, and, surprise, it looks an awful lot like Nail'd. In fact, Mad Riders looks almost exactly like Nail'd, right down to stunts, boost, floating rings and even the hot air balloons. The game will feature 45 different tracks and multiplayer for up to 12 players (the same number of players as Nail'd, incidentally).

Mad Riders will be released on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC this spring. Assuming it's as entertaining as Nail'd, Mad Riders should be a perfect fit for the downloadable market.

Krew Studios' 'Project Orb' is as close to CUBE as we're going to get

"It's coming. A game unlike anything you've ever seen. Prepare yourself ... for CUBE!"

The still nascent Krew Studios isn't doing much to distinguish itself from the developer of the fictional CUBE, if you ask us. This week, the studio announced intentions to create an Xbox 360 title for release this year, currently named "Project Orb," and frankly, we can't help but draw comparisons to the faux game trailer of yore.

For starters, we don't know a damn thing about Project Orb, other than some unbelievably ambiguous screens and a mention in the company's announce PR that the project "will indeed be a music title."

That's not exactly surprising, given the pedigree behind Krew Studios -- co-founder Michael Yum was an executive producer at PM Studios, whose last project was DJ Max Fever. Even more importantly, however, is the other half of that duo: famed music industry exec Clarence Avant.

"Clarence and I really wanted to start with something that could revolutionize the music industry as well as help rebuild a market that was considered sinking as of late 2010," Yum notes in the announcement. We'll get our first chance to see exactly what Yum means in the not so distant future it seems, as he also said that "further announcements will be made shortly." For now, gaze upon the orbs above and below ... if you dare.

NBA 2K12 GOTY edition available only at Best Buy March 11

You have plenty of options for buying NBA 2K12. You can just buy it right now, or you can buy it in a combo pack with MLB 2K12 in March.

Or, you can buy the new Game of the Year Edition on March 11, which packs the Legends Showcase DLC and a poster of "legends" Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird. At $49.99, it's the same price as the current game, so ... at least the choice of "just buying the regular version" is functionally eliminated.

That is, unless you don't live near a Best Buy -- this version is exclusive to the retailer "for a limited time."

Do Japanese RPGs need good stories?

This is a column by Kat Bailey dedicated to the analysis of the once beloved Japanese RPG sub-genre. Tune in every Wednesday for thoughts on white-haired villains, giant robots, Infinity+1 swords, and everything else the wonderful world of JRPGs have to offer.

I'm going to sum up all of the cliches about Final Fantasy XIII in one sentence: "The battle system is pretty good, but the story is laughable." Gamasutra's Christian Nutt even went so far as to compare the direction of the series to the Star Wars prequels. I wish I could disagree.

For all that though, I'm willing to stick out Final Fantasy XIII-2's jaunt through time and space, banal anime archetypes and all. Whenever one of the cutscenes pop up, I just go and check my email. Either that, or I pick up a book. It's mostly the battles that keep me going. I'm also a big fan of putting hats on monsters, and Final Fantasy XIII-2 has that in spades.

The dirty secret is that I've always been more fascinated by RPG battle systems than the story within the game. In many ways, a character's mechanical growth is a story in and of itself. When the game begins, your character is a scrub with a wooden sword and a few potions. By the end, they can call down comets from the heavens and instigate supernovas. That's what I call a character arc.

Rayman Origins is actually profitable for Ubisoft

Rayman Origins has been profitable for publisher Ubisoft and the company feels the title will be an evergreen success. Although the publisher didn't share sales figures or what the budget was for the title on today's investor call, Rayman Origins' apparent lack of sales success didn't make it a complete financial failure.

"Two successes more than compensated for the performance of Rayman: Origins, Tintin and the non-dance Kinect titles," said Alain Martinez, chief financial officer for Ubisoft on today's call. "We believe Rayman: Origins, which is rated 89 percent on Metacritic with enthusiast reviews and is already profitable, has the capacity to become a long-term seller for the company."

Rayman Origins, which has been a critical darling for combining classic platforming with lush visuals, is currently in process of being ported to every platform in existence. We keep hope alive for a sequel some day, but we'd be just as happy if UbiArt was widely available for indie designers to utilize.
