The Matty Awards Nomainations - Part 3

We continue the nomination process for the 2012 Matty Awards today, with three more categories up for consideration. If you don't know, the Matty's are named after the site's founder, Matty I, and are used as a way for you to recognize members of the site who keep you coming back every day.

All you have to do is list the award, and the person (or people) you feel should be in consideration for that award. And, since there were no Matty awards last year, previous winners will be allowed to win the award this year.

Remember - this is not the vote. This is the nomination.

As always NO NOMINATING YOURSELF AND NO CAMPAIGNING ANYWHERE ON THE SITE!!!!

The Jeff Ireland Punching Bag Award – given to the blogger who tends to be everybody else’s punching bag. The Yermiah Bell SLAP of the Year Award - given to the blogger with the best smackdown of an opposing blogger. The Stephen Ross Infatuation of the Week Award - given to the blogger who started the most ridiculous and hilarious player bandwagon. Bonus Points for a creative nickname.

Miami Dolphins Free Agent Candidates: Offensive Tackles

Could Miami's starting RT for 2012 be found on their roster right now? (AP Photo/Lynne Sladky)

We continue taking a look at the men in the trenches this week. After discussing free agents at guard last week, we move to the tackles this week. Unfortunately, the options don't appear too enticing. While there are four solid options at guard, the options at tackle yield maybe only a single solid option

Demetrius Bell: The closest solid option you'll see at tackle. Bell was limited to seven games last year, but was an effective blocker at LT. He did a decent job opening holes on the left side of the line and in seven starts, he surrendered only a single sack and one QB hit. He would obviously move to the right side if he were to sign with Miami. He's not worth top money, but he may receive inflated offers in free agency because many teams need tackles and there are a number of teams with much more cap space than Miami.

Jared Gaither: Never a sure thing to give you an entire year, Gaither finished the season in San Diego. He was signed to replace the injured Marcus McNeal at LT and he was immediately placed into the starting lineup. In his five starts, Gaither didn't allow a single sack and only allowed three QB pressures. Overall, he did very well and would've been one of the better OTs had he played like that over the course of an entire season. The big question is how many games will you get out of him? A cheaper and solid option, but you should have depth at the position too in case he can't go the distance.

Miami Dolphins OC Mike Sherman Discuss What He Looks For In Quarterback

New Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman discusses what he looks for in a quarterback.

It's no secret this offseason that the Miami Dolphins are searching for a quarterback upgrade. The team that has been through 16 different quarterbacks since Dan Marino retired in 1999 (quick, can you name them all?), is once again looking to find the one guy who will finally elevate the play of the offense.

Speaking to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel yesterday, new Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman explained exactly what he is looking for in a quarterback.

"You like to have a guy who will let the system work for him instead of him making the system work. Go through his progressions, reads.

"I always start with feet. If you have good feet you have balance at the top of your routes. You have good throwing position. I always start from the feet up on quarterbacks."

Now, as the Dolphins look to decide between Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill, or someone not on the radar right now, we'll see what kind of upgrade Miami is able to make this offseason.

By the way, the quarterbacks are: Jay Fiedler, Damon Huard, Ray Lucas, Brian Griese, A.J. Feeley, Sage Rosenfels, Gus Frerotte, Joey Harrington, Daunte Culpepper, Cleo Lemon, Trent Green, John Beck, Chad Pennington, Chad Henne, Tyler Thigpen, and Matt Moore.

Miami Dolphins 2012 Free Agents Analysis

Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne is one player SI.com concludes the Dolphins should allow to walk this offseason. (AP Photo/Lynne Sladky)

With the 2012 NFL Free Agency set to kick off in less than a month, in depth analysis of the free agents available, the free agents leaving, and the free agents being signed will be everywhere. One of those analysis was on SI.com yesterday. The Sports Illustrated guys took a look at each of the teams in the AFC East, breaking down each team, including the Miami Dolphins, into the free agents they will have, who they need to sign, and who they should let walk.

They conclude each team with an outlook of how the team should be in free agency. For the Dolphins, they point out that the team has some money to spend, and should be in good shape throughout the free agency period.
