About The Tablet Guru

Welcome to the Tablet Guru, a website completely dedicated to the emerging world of the electronic tablet.  The concept of the tablet is now firmly entrenched in the minds of consumers around the world but it’s a been a long, long journey to reach this point.  Less well-informed observers may imagine that the tablet computer is something that has been in existence for less than two years, citing the development and popularity of Apple’s iPad as a truly innovative device but others will be aware that this is not the case.

We can trace the development of various iterations of the tablet through fairly tortuous routes back from where we are today.  The Dynabook, developed in 1968, may be the first of what we recognise as a tablet computer.  Alan by Alan Kay a few years prior to that, it was partly funded by the United States military who were looking for a way to create a paperless system to cut down the number of weapons guides which personnel were required to carry into the field.  The Dynabook was not commercially available but Kay is still working in the industry today.

A number of commercial projects were developed in the 1980s including releases from companies such as Linus, Communications Intelligence Corporation, Pencept and Go Corp.  They were all involved at one stage or another and no doubt contributed to the pool of technological knowledge in that era.

Apple dipped an early toe into the market in 1987 when it developed and, six years later, released the Apple Newton.  Weighing less than 1kg and featuring a six inch screen, it was a technological marvel but it’s eventual failure scared Apple away from the market for another 25 years.

Microsoft threw their financial muscle behind a 1999 venture, using personnel from the Palo Alto Research Centre for development but again, the product ad the time were not yet right.  It wasn’t until 2010 that Apple unleashed the iPad on the world and changed the tablet market forever.  We’ll keep you up to date with all the latest tablet news on his site so bookmark it for your convenience.
