[image]   Nokia E61 - Nokia for Business!

Let us help you decide your next Phone!

Hi Guys!

It took me some time but finally i'm ready to write my E61 review .. 8) Sorry for keep you waiting ..

Well i bought my E61, cause i need a good phone with huge screen, cause i can't browse SF at Work anymore (My Boss records all logins :( ) i bought it from my provider, with new contract for 99 Euro

Image
The Full Package 8)
Image
aaahh .. there it is :D
Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

The Full Package:

 Nokia E61
 Nokia Charger
 Stereo-Headset
 Li-Ion Battery 1500 mAh!!! (YES!!) :yeah:
 64 MB Mini-SD
 PC-Suite CD
 USB Data Cable CA-53 (?)

First impressions:
The first touch, the first look .. The silver grey cover is great! It's PVC but hard like Aluminium!! Great Work Nokia!! :yeah: The FULL QUERTY KEYPAD is great .. The Buttons have a really good grip, the joystick (i was so worried about) feels great, not 6600 quality but it doesn't feel lose or crappy in any second! :yeah:

Image
looks like IR comes back guys  again the little Charger Plug-In like on N-Series  and Pop-Port for Data Cable (E61 comes with USB Data Cable CA-53 AFAIK)!
On the left side there are the 2 well known Volume Buttons AND and a button to start Voice Recording with just one Hit! :yeah:

Image
This is another cool new little thing .. This LED is not only the Light Sensor, it also lights up everytime you got a new e-mail!

E61 Keypad

Image Here it is, the fantastic E61 Keypad! The Keys have a really good grip, simply awesome, only disadvantage, like on all phones of that type, the buttons are too small for large male fingers! my fingers aren't that big, so no problem! if you get used to it, you can write messages with only one hand, i kinda like that design! :D Special Characters like the @, ? etc Signs are placed on the keyboard, you just have to hold the Image-Button!

Image
This is the new special E-Mail Button, right side of the joystick, bringing you to the E-Mail Menu with just one hit! Bad thing is, that you can't put other functions on that button, i don't get mails to my phone, so it's kinda useless for me :hm:

As you might have realized, the Pencil Key misses .. That's because you mark Words now with the Shift Key and Copy them with CTRL+C! Paste: CTRL+V 8) Nice Solution, same like on PC

The Battery
Holy Smokes, Nokia finally has good Batteries!! E61 uses BP-5L Battery with 1500mAh, 3.7V! It's a big, but slim battery but it works out so damn well! When i use MSN and ICQ via Agile all the time, i got nearly 4 days of standby time (while 6680 has 1 day!)! i use GPRS a lot, using our Java Chat App, Agile and often browse internet - 4 days are no problem! Reports with normal usage, without internet are about 10 days, didn't test that so far! So the Battery is in my opinion one of the biggest YEAHs! :yeah:

The Screeeeeeeeeen:
What should i say about a screen with 240 x 320 resolution at 16 Mio. Colours[physical Size: 58 x 44 mm!) .. HILARIOUS!!

E61 New Features
Everyone knows about S60 Features, so i'll keep this review short and just place the new Features here! :D

:arrow:WLAN: You already know WLAN from N80, so i'll keep this short .. You got 4 Squares at the Screen if you are near a hotspot, so all you have to do then is connect .. Speed is incredible, but i gotta say that browsing with this device is already awesome .. great speed, even on GPRS 8)
:arrow:VPN: Connect E61 with your office's intranet .. It's only available if your company supports that, didn't try that yet, my company won't connect me, so .. :hm:
:arrow:Catalogs: Allows you to download trials from Nokia .. F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus, Birdstep Mobile IP Smartroaming, epocware Handy Expense, Psiloc Wireless Presenter, Psiloc Hotspot Finder and RealEyes3D Digitizer .. But i didn't try that so far .. sorry :hm:
:arrow:Navigator: GPS Navigation with E61 .. Anybody tried that yet?

Office
Image Image Image
Image Image
You can edit every document, this is really great .. Great for business user for quick changes but not recommendable for Full time editing :?

:arrow:Flashplayer: Unfortunately i wasn't able to try that out, i don't have any SWFs on my PC at the moment  so if anyone has one, please mail to beerbong@symbian-freak.com - Thx! :)
:arrow:Connectivity: E61 is accessable via Infrared, Bluetooth and of course via USB Connection!
:arrow:Connectivity II: E61 supports WLAN, 3G and EDGE and can be used as Data Modem of course, NEW Feature for internet tel., PTT and Instant Messaging ..
:arrow:Installed Apps: World Mate, Golf Pro 2, Adobe PDF Reader and ZIP ..
:arrow:E-Mail Roaming: Start at Home get you Mails via WLAN, Continue getting it via 3G on the Road, then vial WLAN again at your office or whatsoever .. NO Brakedowns while changing network speeds :yeah::yeah:
:arrow:Screen Export: Export your screen to a Beamer or something like it via Bluetooth .. I hope i can try this out soon :D

Last but not least:
SAFARI BROWSER
Image Image Image
(Video will follow as i can lay my hands on a Digicam!! 8) )

But there are also some
BAD POINTS:
 S60 3rd Edition (Come to Papa FEx 3rd Ed :? )
 No Cam, big lack for me .. 2 MP at least would be nice ..
 NO 3,5mm Audio Jack Input
 Voice Recorder button is badly placed, i often start it when i grab my phone out of my pocket
 Mail Button can't be personalized ..
 Problems with Games, cause of the landscape screen :?
 Small Buttons (not for me  )
 No Automatic Keylock

Wanna see something ridiculous!?
Image
Can PLEASE someone explain me how to do Video Calls without Camera or 3rd Party Video Call Stand!? :rolf::rolf:

MY PERSONAL RESULT:
This is the No. 1 Phone for business people .. Excellent E-Mail Support, WLAN, VPN Connection, Office Suite, Huge Screen and of course the ABSOLUTE BEST INTERNET-BROWSER EVER make this phone to a MUST HAVE for Business People! That's right, Business People .. The Lack of Camera and 3,5 mm Audio Jack Input makes this phone to a NO for heavy Multimedia Users :hm: So decide everyone .. Are you Business or Multimedia!?

Well .. This is my first review, i'll keep you updated of course and i edit it of course twenty times .. If any E61 user thinks i've forgotten something, or if you need more info, please tell me and i work on it

Enjoy it ..
Cheers

Michael

Thx Buddie

Lokesh wrote:what is the price of the phone?
99 with contract, about 400 euro without contract, new and SIM-free

Lokesh wrote:is the phone comparable to an n-series phone or much better?
No definitely not .. N-Series is the Multimedia-Class from Nokia .. It supports high quality cameras and lots of Multimedia Advantages, while the E-Series is the Business Class, as you read above, the E-Series provides a lot of Business Tools for all the Business Guys
