 What's New at The Center

VICTORY!

We are thrilled that the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has struck down Proposition 8, affirming retired Chief US District Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional. This is not just the right decision based on law, but it is the right decision to bring fairness and equality to thousands of same sex couples throughout the State of California. In their ruling, the Court of Appeals has stated that “Proposition 8 served no purpose, and had no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California.” This is an important acknowledgement that Proposition 8 hurt individuals, couples and families, and laws based on intolerance, exclusion and hate will not be allowed to stand. For 10 years, the Center has been the home where we come to connect with each other and celebrate our victories. Today is no different.

Call for Art Submissions from Artists who had shows at the SF LGBT Center over the last 10 years

The 10th Anniversary of the SF LGBT Center is here and in honor of the artists that have shown here over the past 10 years, we are happy to announce this call for artwork for our 10th Anniversary show. We are asking all the artists that have shown at the Center to submit between 1-3 pieces of art for a building wide show. This show will coincide with our 10th Anniversary Party, and is sure to get a lot of attention. We want to thank you all for your continued support of the LGBT community, and the ARTS! Please contact us at milap@sfcenter.org if you would like to participate in this unique opportunity to showcase your work.

Master Your Money
The Economic Development Dept. is pleased to announce our financial literacy workshop series. Take control of your finances and make your money work for you. Learn how to create a budget, establish a simple and effective savings plan, and build or repair your credit. We offer one-on-one counseling, a peer credit-building program that provides no fee loans (for more information, click here), and a series of workshops and classes that will provide a roadmap to owning your first home. Our homeownership classes are approved by the City of San Francisco and provide an education certificate allowing you to utilize downpayment assistance programs and affordable housing opportunities. Check our calendar for the next upcoming class schedule and contact Shannon Way for more information at shannonw@sfcenter.org.

Business Funding Factory
The Business Funding Factory is a workshop series that provides business owners and motivated entrepreneurs with tools, information and resources to secure the right funding for their businesses to start, grow or expand. This program is perfect for those that have a working draft of their business or expansion plan and will help deepen entrepreneurs’ understanding of capital resources. At the end of the 5-week series, participants will have a unique opportunity to present their pitch to a mock-panel of business experts, investors, funders and lenders. Check our calendar for the next upcoming class schedule and contact Tony Moraga for more information at tonym@sfcenter.org.
