Nokia N9 – Video Example
I edited it using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 to only adjust the duration of each clip to sync with the music. No color correction or any other type of post production was done. What you’re watching is the native video quality of the Nokia N9 phone.
Note: the Nokia N9 phone used was pre-production and did not have the final version of the phone firmware.
Sample photos taken with Nokia N9
One of the really cool features of the N9 are the camera and video capabilities. Â To demonstrate the camera capabilities I took these photos yesterday and today using my N9 (not final hardware or shipping firmware).
I used the default camera settings: Scene (Automatic), Flash (Automatic), White Balance (Automatic), Light Sensitivity (Automatic), Aspect ratio (16:9), and Resolution (High).
If you click on each image you can view the original photos, which are 3552 x 2000.
These are straight from the phone, no editing or re-touching has been done. Pretty amazing results.
Example of non-destructive photo editing on the Nokia N9
Over at Nokia Conversations they have a new article that describes a feature for the N9 that’s not available on any other phone, known as “non-destructive editing”. Â Basically users will be able to make numerous modifications and edits to a photo, save the changes and have the option to revert back to the original image, or to step back in the editing history.
The article does a good job of explaining the workflow and since I received an N9 today I thought I’d try it out first hand and share with you my experience.
Note: the examples below were done on an N9 that is not final hardware and does not have the final shipping firmware.

First I took a photo and then selected the options button in the bottom right of the screen and selected “edit” from the pop-up menu.
Survey: How often do you use your smartphone camera?

Every day I use the camera on my N8 whether it’s for taking photos of friends or shooting video of interesting things I see and I’m constantly amazed not only at the quality but the ease of taking and sharing what I’m seeing.

In this short video by Nokia Conversations, Haje Jan Kamps shows you how to quickly create a professional photo shoot setup by using some ordinary items you might have lying around or things you can easily purchase. The end result looks pretty good considering it was taken with a smartphone.
This is the first of several videos that I’ll be posting on this site that are part of the “Nokia N8 Camera School” series. It’s important to mention that tip can work for almost all Nokia phones with cameras.
new job; shifting focus

Over the past 2.5 years at Nokia as part of the Nokia Developer marketing team I’ve been deeply involved with the Ovi Store and Publish teams, sharing metrics and developer success stories.  While this has been a great and rewarding experience having been able to meet many developers from around the world, I’ve decided to shift focus and pursue a new direction here at Nokia.
I’m now the Global Partner Manager for Imaging, which will allow me to focus a majority of my time working with companies to create fantastic imaging experiences for Nokia’s devices that will delight users around the world.
With this change in focus I’ll be posting less information about Ovi Store, Ovi Publish, and developer success stories. Instead I’ll be sharing insights and news that developers (and consumers) might find useful as it relates to imaging capabilities, new imaging apps and tips and tricks for getting the most out of your camera on your Nokia device.

“We are so happy that we selected the Qt framework to develop our very first app for Nokia phones,” says Imran Aftab, President of TenPearls. “Not only did we find that Qt was very useful and offered the most cutting edge technologies, but we also found the development process to be much faster using the framework – within four weeks our team completed the app and we were quite impressed. We’re looking forward to developing this app for the Windows Mobile Phone 7 platform in the near future.”
