After a long, long time of promising to do something to incorporate the other Mobile Monday websites into the .com domain I grabbed oh so long ago, I finally took some time today to start the transition. I moved this blog to WordPress, renamed it Mobile Monday Silicon Valley (as we are now among many MoMo’s here in the U.S.) and put together a basic Index page for the MobileMonday.com website as well. You should go check it out – it has links to all the chapters around the world, latest headlines and links to random Flickr photos. I’ve also included those links into the bottom right of this blog as well.
This is actually just the first steps of the redesign process. Brian Fling has donated some time to do some real redesign of this blog and the main index page (not just the basic stuff I’ve slapped together), and after meeting up with the guys back in Finland at 3GSM, we’re going to try to centralize some other parts of the MobileMonday sites as well – including a central forum, aggregator, etc. The idea is very simple – if we can organize ourselves electronically, MoMo will be able to more easily gather global sponsors for the meetups, making it much easier to find space and provide munchies for everyone.
I’m also going to take some time and create some permanent pages for the sidebar which will help us as we organize the monthly meetings – including the history of the organization, an overview of how the meetups are run (we’ve pretty much got them down now), instructions for speakers (10-15 minutes, educational focused presentations), and clearer contact information for those interested in helping out, providing space, etc.
This stuff has been looon overdue, so I’m happy to have gotten some headway on it. The only really bad part is that if you got used to typing in .com into your browser or subscribed to the feed, you’ll have to swap it to the .us domain if the permanent redirect I threw in there doesn’t stick. Love to hear your thoughts on the updates!
