Morin, Bill

In Memorial

William (Bill) Morin, beloved husband of 59 years of Diane (nee Villeneuve), passed away peacefully in Calgary on April 28th at the age of 78. Bill was born in Carrying Place, Ontario and educated in Brockville and Ottawa. He served in the Navy from 1947 to 1949 and in 1950 he began work with the CNR as a yard brakeman and would finish his distinguished career 40 years later as Group Vice-President. Among his many achievements with CN were his negotiations of the CNR-Via operating agreements which contributed to the creation of Via Rail, as well as the very successful divestiture of the companies’ non-rail assets in the late 1980’s. Apart from his work life Bill was a caring son, husband, father and grandfather. He remained devoted to the welfare of his parents, Victor Morin and Agnes Humble, throughout their lives. He took great interest in the lives of his sons and his grandchildren and enjoyed travelling with friends and family to a great number of interesting destinations. Bill will be remembered for his honest and unassuming manner, his dedication and work ethic at the CNR and his generosity and support of friends and family. Bill is survived by his wife Diane; sons Brian (Heather Ogilvie) of Ste Adele, Quebec and Garry (Heather Smith) of Calgary, Alberta.; six grandchildren, Chris, Kyle, Carling, Drew, Bradley, and Benjamin; brother Melville of Ottawa, Ontario; two sisters, Venetta of Brockville, Ontario and Arlene (Wayne) Young of Smiths Falls, Ontario. He will also be deeply missed by dear aunt Mrs. J. Humble; and cousin’s Phil and Paddy Humble of Victoria, British Columbia; as well as many nieces and nephews, lifelong friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his brothers Richard and Joseph of Brockville, Ontario, and sister Edna McFerran of Ottawa, Ontario. There will be an Internment of Bill’s urn at the Blue Church in Prescott, Ontario at a later date. Kevol, William (Bill)

Bill Kevol of Calgary passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the age of 88 years.

Bill was born to Paul and Pauline Kevol of Ormiston, SK. on September 14, 1920. He served with the Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946 in the Royal Canadian Engineers. After the war he moved to Victoria, B.C. and started his apprenticeship as a carpenter, where he worked for seventeen years. In 1947 he married Caroline Fiege of Markinch, SK. and they had three beautiful children. The family moved to Calgary in 1964, where he worked for the City of Calgary for sixteen years, until his retirement, in the Parks Department as a cabinet maker, building picnic tables and renovating the Deane House. Dad enjoyed bowling and became very good at it, winning many trophies. Fishing also became a pastime which he developed a great passion for. Bill and Carol enjoyed square dancing together; and he spent many hours being an enthusiastic fan at his grandchildren’s softball and hockey games.

Bill is survived by his daughter Karen Won; son Garry; daughter-in-law Sherron; and grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Billy Brian, and Beth; sisters, Dot and Nettie. Bill was predeceased by wife Carol in 2008; daughter Marilyn in 1984; his parents; sisters, Ann and Mary; brother Stan; and son-in-law Bob Won.

George Maurice Asquin, beloved husband of Lynn of Calgary, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the age of 75 years.

George grew up and graduated high school in Drumheller then moved on with his life and career. His first love though was “the Valley.”

Besides his loving wife Lynn, he is survived by his children, Patti and Liane; and granddaughters, Lauren and Erin. He is also survived by his sisters, Yvonne and Janette; brother Joseph; and many loved ones in the extended family.

Mary was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, and immigrated to Canada in 1964 with her husband Jack and their daughters, Anne, Julie and Francesca. Chaput, Jason John “Ozzy”

Jason Chaput of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 after a valiant battle with cancer at the age of 36 years.

Jason is survived by his parents, Helen and John Chaput, siblings, Katie (Kent), Jordan (Syrina), and Maia (Steeve); and by niece and nephew, Jozie and Simon. He will be sadly missed by his large extended family, as well as by his many friends, co-workers and his treasured music students. We will miss his kind and generous spirit, his ability to make us laugh, and his capacity to inspire others to endure in the face of adversity. We will miss you Jason, but you will be with us always.

Gray, Marjorie

The family of Marjorie Gray, are deeply saddened to announce that she passed away on April 27th, 2009 after a long period of declining health. “Auntie Marjorie” as she is known to everyone, was a kind and gentle soul, who spent her whole life being helpful to all around her. She loved children and enjoyed reading and entertaining them at the Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie, where she has spent the last 20 years of her life. Margie loved to volunteer and spent endless hours selling raffle tickets to anyone who crossed her path. The proceeds from her sales went to buying the Bethany Care Bus. She was musically gifted and spent many hours entertaining the residents and staff at her keyboard. Marjorie is survived by her two sisters Edith Poole of Victoria, B.C. and Veronica (Ronnie) Northcott of Airdrie; one nephew; seven nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her brothers-in-law Howard Poole and Earl Northcott. Lyons, William Leslie “Les

Les Lyons beloved husband of Joyce Lyons of Calgary, passed away on April 27, 2009 at the age of 90 years.

Les was born and raised in Manitoba and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba after bravely serving his country in World War II as an Air Force Officer. His varied work career took him from insurance to the auto industry and finally to his own wine and spirits company, which he operated successfully until his retirement. After twenty years in Markham, ON, Les and his wife moved to Calgary, where they enjoyed their retirement years. His intellect, sense of humour, and inquisitive mind will be missed by all that knew him.

Besides his loving wife Joyce of sixty years, Les is also survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Ken of Summerland. B.C. and Pat and Simon of Warkworth, New Zealand; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Jean of Stouffville, ON; and by grandsons, John and Justin with whom, he had a special bond that only grandpas and grandsons can share.
