Heath, Karel

Heath, Karel

It is with great sadness that the family of Karel Heath announces her passing, on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at the age of 83.

Born in Killorglin, Ireland, she was the eldest girl in a family of five. In the mid 1950′s Karel moved to Canada and settled in Calgary where she lived and worked for over fifty years. Here she raised her children; and when she officially retired in the late 1980′s Karel became the best friend and constant companion to her two granddaughters. She cherished every moment with “her girls” and loved to attend volleyball and badminton tournaments or head to the golf course just to watch the balls fly. Karel was truly a remarkable mother and grandmother. She cared deeply for people and was well loved by many. She always had a wise story to tell or a prayer to pass along. Her kind and gentle spirit will live on in our hearts forever.

Karel will be fondly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law Shane and Wilma and by her daughter and son-in-law Lea and James; by her two granddaughters, Haleigh and Chelcia Petersen; all of her cousins, nieces and nephews in Ireland and friends around the world. Karel was predeceased by her siblings, Willum Joy, David Joy, Frank Joy and Betty Hayes.

A private family prayer service will be held. A Celebration of Karel’s Life will be held in September, details will be announced at a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Memorial tributes may be made directly to teams 4 teens, an organization started by Karel’s granddaughter, Haleigh, encouraging athletes to fill backpacks with “survival stuff” for homeless teens here in Calgary. P.O. Box 23145, 1706 4 Street S.W, Calgary, AB T2S 3A8. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Eileen Watson; Karel’s devoted care-giver, and the staff at the Southwood Care Centre.
