It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our loving husband, father and grandfather. Austin passed away peacefully at Foothills Medical Centre on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 after a long and bravely fought illness. It is a comfort to know he now rests in peace with our heavenly Father.
Austin is lovingly remembered by his wife Clare; his daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Andrew; his sons and daughter-in-law Paul and Brenda, and James; and his grandchildren Scotch, Triana, Christa and Nolan. In New Zealand Austin is loved and fondly remembered by his mother Ellen; his four siblings; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, also from Australia and the United States.
Austin was predeceased by his father James Martin and his son Sean.

Brian Dale, beloved husband of Loraine of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday May 29, 2007, at the age of 70 years.
Brian was born in England. He made his home in Calgary in 1963. He worked with Mobil Oil and then later Suncor. Brian’s greatest passion was soccer and he was an avid tennis player. He wintered in Arizona from 1995. Brian also devoted many hours to volunteering for Calgary Special Olympics. He was a friendly, compassionate and honest man who loved talking to people and sharing a story or a joke.
Besides his loving wife Loraine, Brian will be remembered by his son Brian of Calgary; and daughter and son-in-law Gillian and Dan of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Fred and Mary of Marlboro, Massachusetts; sister-in-law Brenda of Redcar, England; brother-in-law Derek Thomas of Poole, England; and sister-in-law Maureen and Carl Hill of Calgary; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Brian was predeceased by his brother Eric and sister Hilda.

Mary Aletha Patel passed away in Harare, Zimbabwe, on Wednesday May 30, 2007, at the age of 82 years.
Mary was born on April 22, 1925, in Vila Perry, Mozambique, Africa. She was a proud Christian who, for over seventy-five years, placed serving her Lord first. Following the death of her beloved husband Paragji, she single-handedly raised her five sons and one daughter. Mary was a remarkable mother who nurtured her children’s growth without ever raising her voice. Her love and strength will be remembered forever by her family.
Mary is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Manilal and Barbara of the UK, Balloo (Bernard) and Angela of Calgary, Krishna and Grace of the UK and Kenneth of South Africa; daughter Santie Layton of Zimbabwe; twenty grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister Anna; sister-in-law Winnie; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; son Albert; brother John; and daughters-in-law Thelma and Anna.

Ruth Cruickshank passed away peacefully with her family at her side, at the Rockyview General Hospital, on Tuesday May 29, 2007, at the age of 103 years.
Ruth was born in Williamsville, New York and lived in Paris, Ontario, Toronto and Thunder Bay, before moving to Calgary in the 1950′s. Ruth met her husband John, they married in Calgary and together, they enjoyed nature, the mountains and travelling in Mexico, Hawaii and western Canada. Ruth continued to learn until her final days. She had taken a keen interest in Astronomy since her youth and loved her gardens and exotic flowers. Ruth worked as a Secretary to the Superintendent of Eaton’s Calgary. Her love of the written word saw her become Manager of the Paperback Department of Evelyn De Mille Books Ltd. for many years. Ruth assisted many University and High School students in choosing background course material.
Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her sister Joy Stewart of Deer Isle, Maine; many nieces and nephews, Dick Mair, Carol Thomas, Jim Bringloe, Jessie Walter, Wendy Smith, Jeremy Stewart and Jock Stewart and all of their families; as well as the extended Cruickshank family; her many friends and neighbours. She was predeceased by her dear husband John; sisters Dorothy Mair and Marguerite Fraser; brother Edward Bringloe; and nephew John Mair.

It is with deep sadness we announce that George Roy, beloved husband of Linda of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the age of 59 years.
George was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on August 24, 1947 and graduated from The Dauphin Collegiate – Technical Institute in 1965. He then moved to Winnipeg where he attended the University of Manitoba and earned a B.Sc., BA and B.Ed. While at university, George met his future wife Linda, and they were married in 1972. In 1975, the young couple moved to Calgary. In December of that year, George began his career as a Child and Youth Care Worker at Hull Child and Family Services. In 1987, after fourteen years of marriage, George and Linda were overjoyed by the birth of their son Jeffrey, whom George loved very much. In 1989, after working at various front line positions, George took on the responsibilities of Coordinator of Training Services for the Agency. He remained in this position with Hull until the time of his death. In 1993, he earned an M.Sc. in related educational studies from Nova University in Florida. George was a man who loved his job and was passionate about his interests and whatever he did. He embraced life, was a voracious reader and had a life-long love of learning. Goodbye to a very loving, giving man, a dear son, husband, father, uncle, teacher, mentor, counsellor, writer and friend. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives you have touched.

(Mary) Dorothy Patten passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the age of 84 years, surrounded by family and friends.
Dorothy was born in Calgary on May 24, 1923 and graduated from St. Mary’s high school. She worked for Kraft Foods as a comptometer operator for many years. In 1947, Dorothy married Walter Charles Patten, and together they raised their beloved son, Thomas. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by all those who were fortunate to know her as a warm, loving, generous, and kind woman. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed for her feisty spirit, positive outlook, wise advice and caring listening abilities. Dorothy was an avid reader, dessert connoisseur, loved to travel (Scotland, England, Australia, U.S.A.), and was a crackerjack bridge player, despite struggling with rheumatoid arthritis for thirty years. She was very proud of her family’s accomplishments and always showed great interest in their lives.
Dorothy will live on in the hearts of her son Thomas and daughter-in-law May; granddaughters, San (Dave), Noël and Nicole; close cousins Susan, Sarah and Ahna; as well as her many devoted friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ellen Lynch and Thomas Spalding; and husband Walter. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 for close friends and family. Born in Meadowvale, NS, she moved to Alberta in 1963. Kathy had a long and varied career with the Alberta Provincial Government, partner operating a fabric and drapery shop in Red Deer, and several years ago nursing in various hospitals in Nova Scotia and Alberta.

Marjorie Myra Denson passed away on May 28, 2007 at the age of 91 years.
Marjorie was born on February 16, 1916 in Delburne, AB to Mary and Arthur Chaffin, early settlers in the Great Bend District. She worked as a R.N.A. for many years, and retired from the General Hospital in Calgary in the early ’80′s. Marjorie loved to crochet and crafts and most of all loved to be with her family- especially her grandchildren.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marion and Archie Hall of Strathmore; son and daughter-in-law Albert and Anne Crawford of Victoria; grandchildren, Donna (Ralph), Archie (Cindy), Bradley (Tammy), Brian, Bob, Cathleen (Greg), Patricia and Cynthia. Great Grandchildren; Jennifer, Stacy, Krissy, Archie, Austin, Amanda, Ashley, Travis, Kelsey, Jessie, Ashley, Riley, Mitchell, Jarod, Daniel, Morgan, Ryanne, Graham, Kyle and Travis. Three great great grandchildren, Cheyenne, Kaylee and Kolby. She is also survived by her brother Donald Chaffin of Stettler; sisters Dora Lloyd of Red Deer, and Leona Rasmussen of Delburne.
