People can now take a very expensive hot shower at my house.  Not only did we have to sink money into a new hot water heater at the beginning of last week (ours had rusted out and was leaking), today we had to spend even more than the first amount spent to have a new water softener system put in.  It, too, was leaking.

So, if you find yourself in desperate need of a hot shower that has cost us over $2000 in the last two weeks, let me know.  (Seriously, I hate spending money on that kind of thing.  Where is the fun in that?)

In related news, I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to receive our federal tax return.  And, it was 11 days earlier than the estimator on the IRS’s website said.  Bonus!  So, not only is that going to be a nice hot shower, it’s also going to be a nice hot shower that we’ve paid for.  Double bonus!

I was pleased this week to see The Homeschool Classroom’s Facebook page go over 6,000 fans.  While I know there are pages with hundreds of thousands of fans, I was happy for the milestone.

If you homeschool, you might be interested in being a Facebook fan.  While you’re there, be sure to click on the “Free Ebook” tab on the left to get information for downloading the ebook Homeschooling by the Numbers for free!

If you have some extra good thoughts and prayers to send out for our little Molly, we’d appreciate it!  Just three weeks after her eldest brother had five teeth removed, she’s going in to the hospital to have a tooth removed.

Except – poor her, while his were all just pulled out, hers is up in her gums and upside down (and likely doing damage to other teeth).  So, hers is going to be considerably more involved though it is for less teeth.

I have listed a bunch of new things in my Etsy shop.  Plus, a few that aren’t new, per se, but are prints of original paintings that I just hadn’t listed yet.

can be princess or prince, and will be customized with color and name of choice

there is a prince version & a princess version, color can be changed

A few choices of border colors on this print of a drawing I did

See – I wasn’t joking.  I have been busy trying to put up some listings of items that I’ve had here, waiting to be added.  (A few were even ones I took to craft shows in November, but just hadn’t put up online.)  Thanks for looking!

Since you were patient enough to look all through #5, even if you scrolled really fast (hey – that’s okay too), I went ahead and set up a 40% off coupon code in my store just through next Saturday (my Mom’s birthday!).  Just use the code MYMOMISCOOL.

I’m not going to be with my family for St. Patrick’s Day this year, so I’m not quite sure what that means for poor Seamus.  What happens when he has nobody to carry out his dirty work?  He might need to have a trainee this year, I’m thinking.

(Have you seen the things that Seamus has done around our house in the past?  Seamus’ First Year with Us, How Seamus Did a Cool Whip Trick, Planning for a Visit from a Leprechaun, and Seamus’ Second Year with Us.)

February 16, 2012

I just had to post a follow up to the last post titled Signs that I’m Restless.  As I shared, I almost didn’t want to share the post, as I was afraid it was just way too unprofessional to share.  I’m all about being real, but it just seemed like bad form to tell you all that I was feeling very lazy.

I’m so glad that I did, however, and must send out a thank you to those that commented.  You see, when I went to moderate comments for the first time on that post, I had around five comments and almost each one made mention of the winter blues or seasonal depression or even just a need for Spring to come.

A light bulb went on!

Literally.  I turned on a light bulb.

NatureBright SunTouch Plus Light and Ion Therapy Lamp

Okay, so it was a pretty big light bulb.  Oh, and with a fan that puts out negative ions too.

You see, this winter junk — it’s a problem that I’ve long dealt with.  Enough so that Eric actually had thought about buying this light therapy box for me for Christmas for a few years.  He got it for me this past year and I used it a few times and set it aside.  (Spending a month in Florida definitely cut down on my need for it this year.)

Check out my very bright light as I gave spelling pretests!

When the comments started rolling in saying that it sounded like SAD (seasonal affective disorder), I wanted to do one of those “I could have had a V-8″ slapping my head kinds of motions.  I grabbed the light out and sat in front of it and enjoyed the light and the negative ions (it smells like the ocean or like just after it has rained).

It has only been two days of using the therapy light box, but I have noticed that I have managed to do a lot of things that I haven’t been able to drag myself to do lately.  I’m going to try to be sure to make time to use it each day, and I’ll hope that it keeps making a difference.

If you’re having this problem too, I would suggest also looking into light therapy.  Each time I have used it (the last couple of days and then the beginning of the winter when Eric gave it to me early), I have noticed a marked difference in my mood and energy level.

Thanks, again, so much to everyone that commented on the Signs that I’m Restless post who managed to see the big picture when it was alluding me.

Signs I’m Feeling Restless

I don’t know if this happens to other people too, but sometimes I just feel restless.  It’s not necessarily a lack of contentedness, just restlessness. (And, honestly, it might be compounded by those meds I started taking, but maybe not.) I warn you now – this is not a list that is going to make [...]

12 Most Compelling Reasons to Homeschool Your Children – 12 Most Written by a public school teacher, these are, indeed, some pretty darn good reasons to homeschool. Fat Tuesday: How to Make an Authentic Polish Paczki – Catholic Mothers Online I’m not sure that I’ll tackle these, but I loved Jen’s step by step tutorial. [...]

7 Quick Takes: February 10, 2012 (Vol. 112)

~ 1 ~ This week, I have learned one of the wonderful benefits of being active at our parish. I got a call from a friend a little while before our Religious Education classes to ask whether I could drive her kindergarten daughter and fifth grade son home.  I agreed, and just assumed that they [...]

How to Find Out How Much You Paid in Paypal Fees Last Year

By now, you’ve probably received most of your needed tax documents in the mail and may even be gearing up for tackling your federal taxes (or taking your shoe box of things to your accountant).  Either way, if you have a business, whether as a blogger, an online shop owner, or the like, you may [...]

10 Shows We’re Watching Now

I thought about writing up this post, especially with Mary in mind, but then I thought, “Hang on – do I even watch 10 television shows?”  I was sure I would struggle to come up with them. I sheepishly realized as I quickly surpassed ten that I might watch too much television.  Granted, I mostly [...]

A Year of Better Blogging – The SITS Girls I have thought about some of these things many times, like when I will share someone’s post here on the links or on Facebook, but not even bother to leave a comment on it.  Blogging has really changed (having been blogging now for over five years), [...]

7 Quick Takes: February 3, 2012 (Vol. 111)

~ 1 ~ How has Our Food Revolution project been going now that we’ve gotten into February? Umm…huh. Well, we had a really good week and a half, and then it all went horribly, horribly wrong.  My usual attitude would be to just ditch it, but I’m going to try to get back on track [...]

7 Quick Takes: January 28, 2012 (Vol. 110)

~ 1 ~ I’ve been sick all week, and this has been pretty miserable.  It’s mostly just stuffed up sinuses, along with a headache (because my sinuses are stuffed up) and tiredness (because I’m not sleeping well because, well you know). I have a sneaky suspicion that having the weather go between warmish to really [...]
