1:00PM Today | Mario Aguilar

My life is out of control and I want to manage my data and documents better. I want my music to sound better. I want my brain to work better. I want to watch videos on a bigger screen than my phone. And… I want to take funny pictures to make myself feel better about it. These apps should help. More »

Guns don’t really get a lot of coverage on the Australian Gizmodo (for good reason), but it’s not every day our defence forces decide to trade in their faithful Austeyr for… the Austeyr? Before you get mad, you should probably know it’s an all-new model, featuring reliability tweaks, a 40mm grenade launcher and a control system “not unlike punching button combinations on a PlayStation or Xbox”. Gatekeeper, Sandboxing And The Evolution Of OS X

12:30PM Today | Adrian Covert

Since personal computers became a thing, we’ve always been free to install any app we like as long as the code was compatible on a very basic level. No approval processes. No regulation. OS X has been no exception. But this week, two things happened in Appleland that could change that entirely. The introduction of OS X Mountain Lion with its new security features, and an updated developer policy in the Mac App Store. More »

A Melbourne Man Is Suing Twitter For Defamation

Flag
11:30AM Today | Logan Booker

Last year, media personality Marieke Hardy found herself in trouble after she tweeted a link to a self-authored blog post containing defamatory comments regarding one Joshua Meggitt of Melbourne. Hardy, it seems, wasn’t keen on a long legal stoush and settled out of court for a reported $15,000. The win obviously went straight to Meggitt’s head, as he’s now set his lawyer loose on Twitter itself. More »

John Cleese: Truly Stupid People Will Never Know They Are Stupid Life is sad, that way.

Perth Central Institute Of Technology Ad Is Both Hilarious And Gruesome You really don’t expect it to take the morbid turn it does.

Where Microsoft Prints Out Prototype Xbox Controllers… And Then Tortures Them They probably don’t torture them as much as the average rage-quitting Call of Duty player.

Perth Central Institute Of Technology Ad Is Both Hilarious And Gruesome

9:00AM Today | Brent Rose
[image]

Editor’s note: There’s a bit of gore towards the end of the clip, so perhaps not the best to watch at work.

What begins as a seemingly cheesy commercial for the Central Institute of Technology in Perth quickly devolves into a morass of extremely dark silliness. But yes, it’s actually a real ad for a real school. Very creative, twisted, and funny. More »

Why Is Anonymous Clamouring For A Super-Lame, Corporate-Sponsored Twitter Award?

8:00AM Today | Sam Biddle

The Shorty Awards recognise the shining best in “social media content creators”. Those last four words, when strung together, are perhaps the most boring in western civilisation. So why does chaotic Anonymous want a stupid corporate-buzz award? We’re wondering too. More »
