Free World Dial Up
Free World Dialup was a great company - they provided a way to talk over the internet via a free line... much like Skype. Their model was a VoIP (Voice Over IP) business owned by Pulver.com, Inc. The business was started in 1994 by Mr. Jeff Pulver, and his two friends: B. Lucas, and I. Jenie.
The company did voice communications (telephone calls over the internet) that were between its subscribers - which meant FWD wasn't a registered telecommunications company. It allowed users to connect public switched phones to Voice Over the Internet Protocol (VOip) and to toll-free numbers in the US.
The FCC considered Free World Dial Up to be an Information Service rather than a Telecommunication company, which was good for them - this allowed them a lot of freedom. In September of 2005, the company changed its name to FWD, Inc. The trade mark for the company showed that it was not an acronym but rather just the letters themselves... which did not stand for anything. We were never sure why they did this - it was expensive and time consuming, so the re-branding effort wasn't ever very clear.
FreeWorldDialup.com site was salvaged as a website to allow users a way to learn more about what happened to Free World Dial Up and FWD and to register any additional information on this once great company.
If you have any comments or background please use the Contact Us form to allow us to hear from you. Maybe you have some pictures from the old days that you could email us?
Thanks!

Please note that FWD doesn't offer the VoIP Service any more. On August 8, 2008, the company announced they would charge a $30 (US) annual membership fee. Following the implementation of a membership fee the service ran into technical issues eventually resulting in it going offline completely.
So, the $30 a year idea wasn't such a good one - old Skype followed a better model, we're afraid.
Four of my friends and I, are also starting a new initiative - we're helping a nice lady with her Shaklee Products website. We've grown up on the internet and we each own a few sites. We've followed Larry Page and Sergey Brin for years.

Internet Gurus: Larry and Sergey
So, for OUR masters-level work we are learning more about how the the Shaklee business work and helping a good friend of ours with her website of great shaklee products, called, not surprisingly called ShakleeProducts.com
We've got a ways to go to get this site really rocking and rolling - but the research we are doing for our launch later this year is exciting. We hope we can help Laura out with her Shaklee business and we're excited at the opportunity of trying.
Send us a message if you are into online businesses and we'll keep you apprised of what the 5 of us are doing when we are not drinking beer!

Many thanks to our sponsor Rick Stark, CEO of Web Profit Experts. They sponsor lots of events, they run almost no ads on the site and they pay all the bills - without asking for anything. "More Waggin', Less Barking" is their moto - something we all could learn from. They are doing a test so don't worry about these three links (we seeing if anyone besides the robots follow them):
