Cleveland Browns Free Agency Talk - WRs

Steve Johnson is among the top free agent wide receivers.

With the NFL Free Agency drawing closer every day, DBN is going to discuss free agent targets for the Cleveland Browns at each major position. We've already taken a look at potential free agent QBs and RBs. Today we continue our free agency talk with the wide receivers.

Personally, I think this has the potential to be the most exciting position of free agency as well. Not only is the pool of FA WRs very deep, but it's also one of the Browns' biggest weaknesses. It has been for too long now. The Browns also have a lot have cap space to work with. It's going to come down to whether or not the Browns' front office is willing to use that available money and if any of the WRs will want to come to Cleveland. This deep FA pool ranges from plenty of high profile names to solid role players and everywhere in between. Check it out after the jump.

Cleveland Browns:

"Franchise tag targets: Browns" (AFC North Blog) - This is a nice, short break from the latest influx of RG3 coverage. Hensley looks at franchise tag targets for the Browns. "Mayock, RGIII, and the West Coast Offense" (WFNY) - TD of WFNY voices valid concerns about RG3 and whether he can be molded to fit the Browns' West Coast offense. "'PD Sports Insider': Talking Robert Griffin III, Randy Moss and NFL Combine" (Cleveland.com) - Mary Kay Cabot, Bud Shaw and more discuss several Browns topics, including how the Browns can mold the offense to RG3. The entire discussion is great, but the video quality is not. Luckily, that's not important. I just wish they would release an audio-only version. "What the Browns should do next" (Pro Football Talk) - Here's another video about the Browns, RG3 and how they should proceed. Brought to us by PFT. "The party starts at No. 2" (NFPost via Yahoo! Sports) - National Football Post explores some of the landing spots for RG3 and Justin Blackmon, as well as how they get there.

2012 NFL Draft: Sign Up for the DBN Community Mock Draft

It's time for the second annual Dawgs By Nature Community Mock Draft, where we will collectively do a full-blown mock draft for at least the first two rounds. I will not be participating in the Mock Draft again, so that means all 32 teams will be open for you to become their "general manager." There are some special stipulations as to who can sign up, so be sure to read how things will work (after the jump).

Cleveland Browns:

"Mayock thinks the Browns should jump at chance to trade up and take RG3" (Plain Dealer) - Just in case you missed our previous post, here's the article on Mayock's RG3 comments. "Outsiders: AFC North offseason needs" (AFC North Blog) - Football Outsiders takes a look at the holes facing the AFC North teams. They claim the Browns' need is running back. Sigh. "Keeping tabs on quarterback Ryan Tannehill" (NFL Nation Blog) - This is a brief update on Ryan Tannehill, how his foot is coming along, and the prospect of him coming to the Browns. "McLeish at Cleveland Browns as Villa fights drop" (AP via Yahoo! Sports) - Apparently, Browns owner Randy Lerner thinks Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish can learn a lot from... Pat Shurmur.

Mayock: Do whatever it takes to get RG3

Worth whatever it takes.

Mike Mayock, draft analyst for the NFL Network, held a media conference call Wednesday. He spoke on a wide variety of topics, but the most interesting to Cleveland Browns fans were those regarding Robert Griffin III. Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer has all of the detail, and Mayock sure goes into some detail, in an article here.

"As much as I like Colt McCoy, I still think they have to look to upgrade that position and I think they have to do whatever it takes to get there,'' said Mayock of grabbing Griffin. "If it's me, yeah, I'm looking at that real hard. I want to go get RG3.''

Mel Kiper's Second Mock Draft: No Changes for Browns

Last month, Mel Kiper released his first mock draft and had the Cleveland Browns going with QB Robert Griffin III and WR Kendall Wright. Today, he released his second mock draft -- one that saw a lot of shuffling going on. When it came to the Browns, though, Kiper stuck with both of his original picks. He must like the Baylor tandem for Cleveland, and it wouldn't be a surprise for Kiper to continue that trend in his future mock drafts. His explanations for the picks were modified a tiny bit, but the general idea was pretty much the same (see after the jump).

Freeman: Browns "Uncertain" on How to Handle Hillis

With the exception of Pete Prisco, I admittedly do not follow CBSSports.com enough to know who their "insiders" are. I stumbled upon an article today by Mike Freeman of CBS Sports, who is listed as the network's "National NFL Insider." He went through ten bullet points on various NFL-related topics, and toward the end of the list, he had this nugget about Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis:

"The Cleveland Browns remain uncertain exactly how to handle running back Peyton Hillis. Some in the organization want to try and keep him, while others want to part ways and draft Alabama's Trent Richardson. I think the draft option will win out, but no one knows for certain just yet."

If there is a scenario the Browns can go wrong with over the next few months, this would be it. Not only do you fail to improve the quarterback or wide receiver position, all you accomplish is a swap at the position that had your best offensive player (not including linemen).

"Leading Questions: AFC North" (AFC North Blog) - Jamison Hensley hits the nail on the head for the Browns' leading question: "Who will be the starting quarterback in 2012?" "Terry Pluto talks ... NFL free agents - Podcast" (Cleveland.com) - Terry Pluto discusses whether the Browns should pursue a veteran wide receiver as well as other unrelated topics in this podcast.
