December 8 - Keith McCready and Sueyen Rhee undefeated in Falcon Cue Tour 2003 year end final

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour year end final was held at the Laurel, MD location of the popular Champions Billiards Café chain of pool rooms on December 6/7. Champions and Falcon Cues combined to push the total purse for this event to $7400. There were 66entrants and 20 ladies most of whom took advantage of discounted entry fees based on standing in the year-to-date points lists.

Despite snow warnings, all top 16 players were in attendance to claim their seeded spot in the event with the exception of Californian Amar Kang who won 2 events earlier this year. There were 324 players that participated in the 2003Division so placing in the top 16 is quite an accomplishment. Unfortunately for the seeded players, the field was full of capable 9-ball players. Right out of the gate, the #1 seed Mike Davis fell to Alvin Thomas 9-8 and the #2 seed Pooky Rasmeloungon was taken down by Jerry Pierson 9-5. By early Saturday evening, the winner side was down to 8 players with only Keith McCready and Jim Henson maintaining their seeded positions. Joining them were Jerry Slivka, Brad Grasso, Buddy Chilton, Alan Duty, Lenny Boggs and Jerry Pierson.

Play continued Sunday morning and the 2 remaining seeds Henson and McCready advanced to the hot seat match. Henson took an early 5-3 lead but saw that advantage slip away as McCready turned it around to win 9-7. Over in the elimination bracket, Mike Davis refocused after his first round loss to win 9 matches before taking on Jerry Slivka. Slivka had just taken out Shaun Wilkie, tour sponsor Tommy Kay and Jerry Pierson. Davis continued to roll with a quick 7-2 victory. Davis then advanced past the national amateur champion Jim Henson by a 7-4 margin. This set up a much anticipated matchup between the flamboyant Keith McCready and the quietly determined Mike Davis. The final turned into a runaway as McCready easily cruised 9-2 for the $1600 1st place prize. Davis took home $1050 for his 2nd place finish.

The Sunday Women’s division saw the #1 seed Sueyen Rhee advance to the hot seat match with a 7-4 win over Gwen Dickert. Kim Jones claimed the lower half of the bracket with a strong 7-2 win over newcomer Ellen Yu. Rhee was focused on finishing her very successful season on a high note and cruised into the final with a 7-2 win against Jones. The 1-loss bracket saw Dickert eliminate the straight shooting Yu placing her into a respectable 4th place. The next match was all Dickert as she defeated Jones 5-2 setting up a rematch with Rhee. The final would prove no different than their earlier contest as Rhee won handily 7-3. 1st place paid $450 with $300 for 2nd.

The year end points race was already decided before this event as both Mike Davis and Sueyen Rhee had locked up the top spots. Year end prizes will be presented at the 2004 seasonr at Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville, MD February 7/8. Here are the complete results with both brackets for the event and the updated points list. Pictures from this event have also been posted.

November 24 - Mike Davis prevails and Amanda Smith wins her first event on the Falcon Cue Tour

Event #17 of the Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour was held at the beautiful Great Slates room in Cambridge, MD November 22/23. There were 56entrants and 10 ladies vying for their share of the $3000 added money made possible by Falcon Cues and Great Slates.

8 of the top 10 on the year-to-date points list were present to take advantage of this special “double points” event. Everything ran smoothly on the 14 Gabriel tables. By early Saturday evening, the winner side was reduced to Keith McCready vs Pooky Rasmeloungon and Mike Davis vs Shaun Wilkie. These 4 familiar names also happen to occupy the top 4 spots on the points list!

Play continued Sunday morning with Rasmeloungon overcoming an early deficit to take down McCready 9-6. The always entertaining McCready remarked, “I beat the line just by showing up before noon on Sunday!” The other match saw Shaun Wilkie score his first win over the current points’ leader Davis by a score of 9-7. Rasmeloungon maintained a lead throughout the winner side final capturing the hot seat with a 9-6 win. Over in the elimination bracket, McCready stopped a 6 match run by Josh Brothers with a quick 7-4 show that lasted less than 30 minutes. Mike Davis took advantage of a missed 5 ball by Andy Scott to tie the score at 6-6. With 3 balls on the break and a straight in shot on the 3 ball, Davis easily ran out to advance. The McCready/Davis match also wound up at hill-hill where Davis again took advantage of a rare McCready miss to advance. This set up a rematch with Shaun Wilkie. Another hill-hill break and run put Davis into the finals. A convincing 9-3 first set win by Davis led the crowd to believe it was all over. Pooky Rasmeloungon was not convinced and quickly took a 4-0 lead in the second set. Undaunted, Davis tied the score at 4-4 and 6-6 before scoring a 9-7 win for his third tour victory of 2003. 1st place paid $1200 with $800 for 2nd.

The Sunday Women’s division winner side final came down to Amanda Page playing Amanda Smith. Page scored a convincing 7-1 win to take the hot seat. Pauline Mattes suffered a first round loss to Page but recovered with 3 match victories. Another win placed Evelyn Hazlett into a personal best 4th place finish. After a short nap and a 0-2 deficit to Mattes, Amanda Smith woke up and won 5-3 to take another shot at Page. Smith scored a convincing 7-3 first set win. The second set was also all Smith as she cruised to a 7-2 score for her first Falcon Tour win. Smith earned $350 with $210 for Page.

Mike Davis stretches his points’ lead with just one event left this year. Sueyen Rhee survives missing this event to hold on to first while earning her touring pro status on the WPBA. The year-end final will be at Champions Billiards Café in Laurel, MD on December 6/7. Here are the complete results with both brackets for the event and the updated points list. November 10 - Ryan McCreesh romps and Gail Grecar comes through on the Falcon Cue Tour

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour returned to Bill & Billies Cuesport in Arnold, MD November 8/9 for stop #16. Last February the tour visited Bill & Billies under 2 feet of snow but this time the weather was sunny and 98 players came out to take a shot at the $3000 added money provided by room owner Kurt Ziem and Falcon Cues.

16 of the top 20 on the points list were among the 82entrants starting out at noon on Saturday. Ten hours later, the field was down to Donnie Thomas, Ron Justice, Joe Cataldi, Brett Stottlemyer, Pooky Rasmeloungon, Rick Molineiro, Ryan McCreesh and Mike Davis with 16 players hanging around in the elimination bracket.

Play continued Sunday with Thomas, Stottlemyer and Rasmeloungon advancing along with McCreesh who turned an 8-6 deficit into a 9-8 win over points’ leader Mike Davis. McCreesh continued on to easily take the hot seat with a 9-4 victory over Stottlemyer. The elimination bracket came down to Mike Davis eliminating Rasmeloungon and then falling 7-6 to Stottlemyer. The final saw McCreesh continue to roll as he played flawlessly cruising to a 9-1 win for his first tour win of 2003. 1st place paid $1300 with $850 for 2nd.

17 ladies entered the Sunday tournament. The final four winner’s side saw June Prescop take on perennial favorite Sueyen Rhee and Amanda Smith challenge Gail Grecar from Ohio. Rhee and Grecar advanced followed by Rhee rolling into the hot seat with a strong 7-1 victory. On the 1-loss side, Malea Haacke sent Amanda Page to the sidelines with a 4th place finish. Grecar defeated Haacke 5-2 to take another shot at the current points’ leader Rhee. The first set of the true double elimination final started out in Rhee’s favor as she built a 4-1 lead. Grecar fought back to tie the score 6-6 in the race to 7. This set went to Grecar. The second set began with the players trading games to reach 4-4. The next 3 games went to Grecar as she won her first Falcon Tour event and a $400 1st place prize.

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour will be at Great Slates in Cambridge, MD on November 22/23 for the next event. This will be a special double points event. Complete results of all events are available on the website at http://www.FalconCueTour.com Here are the complete results with both brackets for the event and the updated points list. October 27 - Mike Davis returns and Sueyen Rhee triumphs on the Falcon Cue Tour

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour was back in Rockville, MD October 25/26 at Orange Ball Billiards for stop #15. Falcon Cues and the Orange Ball owners made this a $3000 added event. There were 66entrants Saturday and 19 ladies competing in their Sunday only event.

The first round Saturday went pretty much as expected with the top players advancing. Tour owner Nick Prinsloo scored a convincing second round victory over Keith McCready who had won the previous two tour stops. Prinsloo followed up his success with another win over Jim McAdams to remain on the winner’s side going into Sunday. A tough matchup between previous tour event winners Pooky Rasmeloungon and Shaun Wilkie was won by the clean shaven Rasmeloungon. Mike Davis won his matches over last week’s benefit winner Joe Cataldi, Sydney Lee and Rob Palucho.

16 players continued at noon on Sunday with Alan Duty sending Rasmeloungon to the 1-loss side. Prinsloo continued his run winning over Brandon Shuff and Duty to reach the hot seat match. The lower half of the bracket saw touring pro Mike Davis defeat local star Kevin West to take on Prinsloo. The winner side final started out in Prinsloo’s favor as he fought for a 5-4 lead. Davis stayed focused and won the next 5 games for the 9-5 victory. On the 1-loss side, Rasmeloungon was getting in gear and exacted his revenge on Duty 7-2 placing him into the 4th spot. Rasmeloungon broke a 5-5 deadlock with Prinsloo winning 7-5 to take a shot at Davis in the final. The first set was mostly back and forth until Rasmeloungon won 2 games to take an 8-6 lead in the race to 9. Davis stayed in it knotting the score at hill-hill. The final game saw a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes from both players. The last turn at the table would be Mike Davis making a pressure shot on the 4 ball and running out for his second 2003 tour win. 1st place paid $1200 with $800 for 2nd.

The Sunday ladies division was a different story with a familiar ending. The steadily improving Pauline Mattes took the tour superstar Sueyen Rhee to an exciting hill-hill score in the first round. This match would go to Mattes and Rhee found herself with the daunting task of having to win 9 matches to keep her streak of 8 tournament wins alive. Kim Jones continues to play well sending Mattes and then Gail Grecar to the 1-loss side to reach the winner side final. Malea Haacke and Amanda Smith met up in the bottom half of the bracket with Haacke taking this meeting. The match between Jones and Haacke was all Jones as she scored a convincing 7-2 victory for the hot seat. The elimination bracket was being dominated by Rhee as she scored wins over Hazlett, Stottlemyer and Prescop. A 4-4 threat from Jinhee Park was quieted as Rhee ran out for a 5-4 victory. Rhee then eliminated Grecar and Amanda Smith before running into the determined Malea Haacke. The score came to 4-1 in favor of Haacke before Rhee mounted an exciting comeback to once again reach hill-hill. Antable position error led Rhee to purposefully tie up of the 8 and 9 balls. A barely missed breakout and subsequent missed bank shot let Rhee escape into the finals with a 5-4 decision. Rhee proved to be too much for Kim Jones in the first set winning 7-2 to force a second set. The tournament was now in its 13th hour and by midnight Rhee was once again victorious with a 7-3 win. 1st place paid $425 with Jones earning $275 for her strong 2nd place finish.

Mike Davis regains the top spot on the points list with just 3 events remaining in the 2003 season. The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour will be at Bill & Billies CueSport in Arnold, MD on November 8/9 for the next event. Here are the complete results with both brackets for the event and the updated points list. Pictures have also been posted.

October 18 - Joe Cataldi & Linda Shea win benefit event at Orange Ball

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour visited Rockville, MD at Orange Ball Billiards on October 18 for the CMN Children's Hospital Benefit event. 62 players showed up for a day of fun and fundraising, and overall the event was a huge success. With the help of RE/MAX Pros, KH Funding and Classic Settlements, the Falcon Tour raised in excess of $10,000 to go towards the Children's Hospital and Linda Shea's baby Madison, who hadheart surgery a year ago.

Theevent saw 42 men struggle it out in a modified single elimination event. Joe Cataldi beat Ron Justice 7-1 for first place, and Jim Parker defeated Lester Mills in the consolation bracket for third place. Justice and Mills took 2nd and 4th respectively.

In the women's event, 15 ladies showed up to prove their support for the cause, including Holly Ryan, Trish Spurgeon, and Eve Hosea from the CAT Tour. And of course, Linda Shea came out of retirement to come show us she can still play the game.

Linda Shea & Ceci Endara

Shea went undefeated, beating Kim Jones in the final of the winner's bracket for 1st. Amanda Smith and Trish Spurgeon took 3rd and 4th respectively.

There was also a children's event, and 7 kids played it out for the first prize, a Falcon Cue signed by Jose Parica. Francisco Cifuentes is the proud new owner of that, beating Arjun Mahajan in the finals. Arjun's sister, Arshia took 3rd over Joshua Fleming on the consolation side.

Current points leader, Keith McCready made a short appearance to participate in a "Big Rack" competition, in which he broke and ran out ten balls to win the $250 prize. Keith donated that to the Children's Hospital. And whoever said Keith McCready was not a nice guy?

October 6 - Keith McCready and Sueyen Rhee repeat on the Falcon Cue Tour

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour visited the Rockville, MD Champions Billiards Café on October 4/5 for stop #14. This was another $2000 added event made possible by the host room Champions and Falcon Cues. There were 56entrants Saturday and 17 ladies competing in their Sunday only event.

Saturday started out with most of the top players advancing as expected. Late afternoon saw Walter Koch upsetting Ryan McCreesh and an exciting matchup between Keith McCready and Jose Parica. McCready has been playing well lately finishing 3rd in the USand winning last week’s Falcon Tour event. He continued his streak with a solid 9-7 win over Parica. Saturday afternoon also saw Sueyen Rhee cashing in thedivision with a couple of nice wins.

Sunday began with McCready continuing to win with a 9-7 victory over points’ leader Mike Davis and a convincing win over Doug Sharp. The bottom half of the bracket was being dominated by Shaun Wilkie who advanced fairly easily to the hot seat match against McCready. Both players shot well throughout the match. Wilkie executed a jump shot on the 3 ball with 3 rails for perfect position in traffic en route to a 9-8 victory. The elimination bracket was heating up as Mike Davis and Jose Parica both focused on winning this tournament the hard way. Davis posted victories over Joe Cataldi, John Tolson and Lester Mills while Parica eliminated Billy Cannon, Pete Sawyers, Walter Koch, Nick Prinsloo and Doug Sharp. The two powerhouses inevitably ran into each other. The crowd gathered and the score reached 6-6 in the quick race to 7. Mike Davis took this match sending Parica to the sidelines with 4th place. The rematch between Davis and McCready would once again go to the veteran with Davis settling for 3rd place. In his typically entertaining fashion, McCready continued to run his mouth and the table winning the first set 9-5 over Wilkie in the true double elimination format. The second set started out with the players trading games to reach a 3-3 score. McCready then found himself on the wrong side of a 2-9 combo. Unfazed, he sent the cue ball the length of the table 2 rails through traffic to play a 2-9 billiard straight into the corner pocket. The onlookers let out a cheer that rivaled the level of the rowdy football fans at the packed bar! McCready never looked back cruising to a 9-3 victory and the $1000 1st place prize.

The usual cast of ladies arrived on Sunday to take their shot at the cash. Sueyen Rhee defeated 3 of the top 5 players on the points list in Jinhee Park, Amanda Smith and Malea Haacke. Her opponent in the hot seat match was Jennifer Dunkin. This was a closely contested match but it was Rhee emerging with a 7-5 victory. Kim Jones lost her first match and worked her way through 4 matches before losing to Malea Haacke. Dunkin’s appearance on the 1-loss side was brief as Haacke quickly placed her into the 3rd spot. The final match was all Rhee as she took advantage of every opportunity to score a 7-2 win. 1st place was worth $325 with $215 for 2nd.

With his back-to-back tour wins, Keith McCready retakes the top of the points list. The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour will be hosting a charity event October 18th at Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville, MD with a regular tour event the following weekend at the same location. Here are the complete results with both brackets for the event and the updated points list. Pictures from this event have also been posted.

September 29 - Keith McCready rocks and Sueyen Rhee triumphs on the Falcon Cue Tour

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour returned to First Break Café in Sterling, VA on September 27/28 for stop #13. First Break Cafe and Falcon Cues combined to add $2000 to the prize fund. There were 50entrants Saturday with 19 ladies showing up for their Sunday event.

The excitement started out early Saturday morning as rumors that Inside Pool 2002 Player of The Year Francisco Bustamante was in town for the Baltimore ESPN Zone 7-ball event and was scheduled to play the Falcon event. Most of the tour regulars were also entered and Kevin West was the first to fall victim to Bustamante. The top pro then cruised through Leo McDaniel and Ryan McCreesh before escaping with a 9-8 gift on an unfortunate 9-ball scratch from points’ leader Mike Davis. Also making it to Sunday unscathed were tour regulars Jim Henson and Keith McCready who were joined by newcomer Chad Short.

Sunday began with McCready storming over Short 9-2 and Henson scoring a thrilling win over Bustamante 9-5. Unfazed by Henson’s accomplishment, McCready took the hot seat with a solid 9-5 performance. The 1-loss side provided some exciting matches as the crowd looked for an underdog to take down Bustamante. Doug Sharp was coming off a string of 4 solid wins but fell short as did Mike Davis who settled for 4th. This set up a rematch between the National Amateur Champion Henson and top ranked professional Bustamante. This time it would be the focused Bustamante posting a strong 7-2 win to exact his revenge. First Break Café is set up very well for watching matches with a raised area that quickly filled for the finals. Bustamante would need to beat the flamboyant McCready twice in the true double elimination format. A Falcon Tour record crowd of just over 100 players and supporters gathered to take in the action. The score remained close until McCready took a 3-4 deficit and turned it into a 7-4 lead with some flawless execution. After that 9-ball fell, Keith exclaimed, “There’s always time for a good flashback!” Bustamante sat quietly in his chair waiting for an opportunity which finally came. He made the most of it stringing together 3 racks including the shot of the tournament. Faced with a position zone of about 4 inches, Bustamante made a severe cut on the 3 ball into the corner and zigzagged the cue ball 3 rails through traffic for perfect shape on the 4 ball. The audience erupted and he continued the run out to tie the score at 7-7 in the race to 9. The comeback was shut down as McCready took the next two games for his 3rd Falcon Cue Tour 2003 title. 1st place paid an even $1000 with $650 for 2nd.

The Women’s division on Sunday saw 19 ladies compete along side the excitingmatches. Amanda Smith continues to play strong and reached the hot seat match against tour favorite Sueyen Rhee. Smith took this match 7-5 over Rhee. Pauline Mattes recovered from a first round loss to win 4 matches including a payback win over Suzy Mankin placing her into a personal best 5th. Tracy Figueroa defeated Mattes who settled for 4th before falling to a re-energized Rhee 5-1. The final started out all Rhee as she raced out to a 6-0 lead. Smith won a couple games before Rhee closed out at 7-2. Smith refocused and came out strong in the second set taking an early lead but it was Rhee who came through once again for a 7-4 win.

There were no changes at the top of the points list as Mike Davis and Sueyen Rhee maintain their leads. The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour’s next event will be October 4/5 at Champions Billiards Café in Rockville, MD. Complete results of all events are available on the website at http://www.FalconCueTour.com Here are the complete results with both brackets for the event and the updated points list.

September 8 - BJ Ussery wins and Sueyen Rhee continues to dominate on the Falcon Cue Tour

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour held stop #12 on September 6/7 at the Arlington, VA Champions Billiards Café. The Brunswick Gold Crown tables played perfectly with newly covered Simonis cloth. Champions and Falcon Cues combined to add $1750 to the prize fund. There were 60entrants Saturday morning with 20 ladies showing up for their Sunday event.

18 of the top 20 tour players were in attendance so it was no surprise that several strong players took early trips to the 1-loss side. Shaun Wilkie took down Keith McCready and BJ Ussery defeated Kevin West. Jim McAdams outlasted Ryan McCreesh and Ron Justice beat last event’s winner Pooky Rasmeloungon. 16 players continued on to Sunday morning with Mike Davis and BJ Ussery advancing over Jim McAdams and Sydney Lee respectively to reach the hot seat match. A broken tip at 8-7 for Ussery led to a hill-hill score. Davis scratched on the break however, allowing a fortunate Ussery back to the table where he regained his composure and ran out. The 1-loss side was being dominated by Pooky Rasmeloungon as he defeated several top names: Jim Henson, Bill Elliott, Chris Comstock, Ryan McCreesh, Jim McAdams and Ron Justice. A thrilling 7-6 victory over Mike Davis put Rasmeloungon in a position to take on the undefeated Ussery. He continued his impressive string of victories with a 9-5 first set win. But Ussery was not done yet in this true elimination format and less than 40 minutes later, he sank the final 9 ball for a convincing 9-2 win for his first Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour title. 1st place paid an even $1000 with $650 for 2nd.

The Women’s division on Sunday saw a return of the Sueyen Rhee and Malea Haacke rivalry. Rhee earned the hot seat with victories over Michelle Choe, Amanda Smith, Haacke and Patricia Spurgeon. Haacke’s trip to the 1-loss side was temporary as she defeated Amanda Smith and Spurgeon who settled for 4th and 3rd respectively. The final looked to be going to Sueyen Rhee as she built a 6-4 lead. Haacke fought back to 6-6 before Rhee closed the deal for the $300 1st place prize. This win makes it a remarkable 6 in a row for Rhee on the tour!

There were no changes at the top of the points list as Mike Davis and Sueyen Rhee maintain their leads. The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour’s next event will be September 27/28 at First Break Café in Sterling, VA. Complete results of all events are available on the website at http://www.FalconCueTour.com Here are the complete results with both brackets for the event and the updated points list. August 11 - Pooky Rasmeloungon wins and Amanda Pasko is undefeated scoring her first tour victory on the Falcon Cue Tour

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour made its first visit of many to the luxurious new Great Slates room in Cambridge, MD. 63players and 18 ladies made the trip August 9/10 to see what everyone has been discussing about this exciting new room. The proprietor John Moody Sr. is an established player and this room was built from the beginning with pool tournaments in mind. 14 9ft tables are in a separate area away from the busy bar and spacious dinner area. An excellent menu makes for a truly first class pool event. There is no question that Great Slates will be in everyone’s Top 5 new rooms in the country this year. Falcon Cues and Great Slates combined to make this a special $2500 added event.

Saturday started out with a couple high-powered first round matches as action man Pooky Rasmeloungon took on Keith McCready and Shaun Wilkie drew road player Danny Basavich. Both matches were close with Rasmeloungon and Wilkie advancing. By early evening, a couple of upsets saw Richard Keefe defeating Ryan McCreesh and Shane Moore sending Wilkie to the 1-loss side. Amanda Smith won two matches and established an early lead in the next before falling just short of a payday in theDivision.

24 players returned on Sunday morning and Pooky Rasmeloungon set the tone for the day taking down Mike Davis 9-5. With the Saturday upsets, the bottom half of the bracket was up for grabs and young Matt Krah emerged to take on Rasmeloungon. The hot seat match was all Rasmeloungon as he confidently notched a 9-5 victory. Mike Davis was working hard on the 1-loss side defeating Wilkie, McCreesh, Danny Bell and Rick Molineiro. Matt Krah put a quick halt to the streak sending Davis home with a 3rd place finish. The final started out with Rasmeloungon taking a solid 6-3 lead before faltering on antable. Krah took advantage and worked his way back in continuing on to take a 9-7 first set win. The second set was all Rasmeloungon as he raced out to a 6-0 advantage. Krah mustered a comeback but it was Rasmeloungon taking the 9-5 victory for the title. 1st place paid $1150 with $750 for 2nd.

The Women’s division on Sunday saw some new faces at the top as Amanda Pasko took down Amanda Smith and Pauline Mattes won 3 matches to earn her first hot seat match appearance. Pasko confidently shot out to a 5-1 lead before Mattes closed the gap to 6-5. Pasko took the win 7-5 for her first hot seat on the tour. Top performer Malea Haacke was rolling on the 1-loss side posting victories over Figueroa, Choe, Amanda Smith and Kathy Friend. Haacke continued her strong play sending Mattes to the sidelines with a personal best 3rd place finish. The final was all Pasko as she took every opportunity to race out to a 6-1 lead. Haacke won a couple games before Pasko closed the deal 7-3 to win her first tour title. 1st place paid $350 with $220 for 2nd.

Amanda Pasko won this Falcon Cue Tour event with her Falcon cue that she won in the raffle back in April! Local player Tim Anders was the winner this time receiving his choice of any beautiful Falcon cue available at Great Slates. There was plenty of activity on the points list as this weekend was a special “double points” event. Mike Davis takes a slim lead over Keith McCready with Pooky Rasmeloungon vaulting into third place. Malea Haacke closes the gap significantly on Sueyen Rhee ’s lead for the Women’s Division. The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour’s next event will be September 6/7 at the Shirlington Road Champions in Arlington, VA. Here are the complete results with both brackets for the event and the updated points list.

August 4 - Doug Sharp wins first tour event and Sueyen Rhee rolls at Stop #10 of the Falcon Cue Tour

Fast Eddie’s Billiards Café in Alexandria, VA hosted stop #10 of the Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour on August 2/3. Everyone enjoys playing at this comfortable room and the $2000 added money from Fast Eddie’s and Falcon Cues just sweetened the deal. 68 players entered thedivision with 21 ladies in the Sunday event.

The excitement started early Saturday morning as several top tour players were not in attendance and everyone was discussing who might emerge from various parts of the brackets. One first round match went mostly unnoticed as Pat Carosi took down BCA instructor and tour sponsor Doug Sharp. A late afternoon match-up between heavyweights Jim Henson and Kevin West went to Henson who has finished in the top 4 in his last 4 events. The field was cut down to 24 players in the money returning to play on Sunday.

The action on Sunday saw Rob Perry upset Jim Henson and John Tolson quietly disposing of his opponents. Tolson purchased a Falcon cue earlier this year and was playing with confidence with it. The hot seat match saw Tolson come back from an 8-5 deficit to defeat Rob Perry. The 1-loss side was still tough to predict as several capable players were hanging around. Doug Sharp was gaining steam as he worked his way through the money rounds. After taking down young superstar Shaun Wilkie, Sharp walked past saying, “I just might snap this thing off!” He then took down Jim Henson and the disappointed Rob Perry placing them into 4th and 3rd to take a shot at the undefeated Tolson. The first set battled back and forth before Sharp took control winning 9-6. Tolson was not quite done yet and rebounded to take a 2-0 lead in the second set. Sharp answered and then took control of this set as well to win 9-5 for his first Falcon Tour win. Sharp’s record run of 12 matches on the 1-loss side earned him $1100 with $700 going to Tolson for his personal best 2nd place finish.

The Women’s division on Sunday was a replay of the last event as Sueyen Rhee continued to roll through the competition. The overall level of play is increasing but the field is still looking for an answer to Rhee’s string of victories. The enthusiastic Michelle Choe defeated Jennifer Dunkin to earn her shot at Sueyen Rhee for the hot seat. Rhee dominated this contest 7-2 sending Choe to the 1-loss side. Dunkin had just placed Gwen Dickert into 4th place and proceeded to gain her revenge on Choe. The final was all Rhee however as she cruised to a 7-0 win and her 5th straight tour title. 1st payed $335 with $225 for 2nd.

Falcon Cues and First Break combined to make this a $2000 added event and 71 competitors came in Saturday for thedivision with 21 ladies showing up for the Sunday event. First Break is owned by pool players and many players consider it their home room.

Jim Henson took down points’ leader Keith McCready, pro player Mike Davis fell to Sydney Lee and Rob Perry took down action man Pooky Rasmeloungon. The event continued to midnight in order to narrow the field down to the final 16.

Sunday action saw top senior player Frank Tullos emerge as the man to beat as he took down youngsters Shaun Wilkie and Rob Perry. The hot seat match proved tougher as Tullos used a hill-hill break and run to take down Jim Henson. Freddy Scott returned to late Sunday afternoon form finally falling to the rallying Ryan McCreesh to settle for 4th place. Henson put an end to the McCreesh run coming out on top of the 7-6 decision to take another shot at Tullos. The final started out all Tullos as he methodically attacked each rack to gain a 4-1 advantage. Henson managed to win the next 2 games before Tullos continued to roll on to a convincing 9-4 victory. 1st place payed $1100 with $700 for 2nd.

The Women’s event on Sunday saw 20 competitors looking to take down the dominant Sueyen Rhee who has won 4 of the 5 events that she’s played in this year. Rhee appeared “remarkably unfatigued” as she rolled through her opponents. Jennifer Dunkin was playing well and emerged from a fortunate hill-hill match with Amanda Pasko to take on Rhee for the hot seat. Sueyen was focused on her efforts at the table and took the match 7-3. June 23 - Shaun Wilkie wins and Sueyen Rhee comes through on the Falcon Cue Tour

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour returned to the beautiful and spacious Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville, MD for stop #8 on June 21/22. This was another $2000 added event made possible by Falcon Cues and Orange Ball Billiards. There were 71 competitors in thedivision with 19 ladies playing in their Sunday Women’s division. Everyone was excited to be playing on 29 Brunswick Gold Crown tables that played perfectly with brand new Simonis cloth.

This was a powerful field that saw the return of Amar Kang and Keith McCready, Max Eberle visiting from the west coast and most of the regular tour players in attendance. Saturday was packed with early excitement from some strong matchups. Ryan McCreesh started out quickly sending BJ Ussery and Max Eberle over to the 1-loss side. Last event’s winner Mike Davis fell to Jim Henson and points’ leader Amar Kang was defeated by the fearless Pooky Rasmeloungon. By early Saturday night, the field was trimmed down to 24 cash winners returning on Sunday.

By early Sunday afternoon, the winner’s side was down to Keith McCready taking on Jim Henson and Alan Duty challenging Shaun Wilkie. McCready came through with a 9-6 victory while Wilkie cruised into the hot seat match. The stylish Shaun Wilkie is full of confidence and rolled right through McCready 9-5. The 1-loss side was no bargain with several players capable of winning the whole thing. Ryan McCreesh and Jim Henson rose to the final four with McCreesh taking that “all whining” match. Keith McCready wanted another shot at Wilkie and put a stop to McCreesh’s run. The final match was mostly back and forth with McCready maintaining a slim lead. With a 5-7 deficit, Wilkie stayed focused and fought his way to 4 consecutive games to win the tournament 9-7. 1st place payed $1100 with $700 for 2nd.

The Women’s event on Sunday saw some surprises as the points’ leader Sueyen Rhee took a new path to the finals. 20 year old newcomer Amanda Pasko played with her new favorite Falcon cue and sent Rhee to the 1-loss side mid-afternoon. Pasko then took on Amanda Smith for the hot-seat but was defeated 7-2. Rhee placed Teresa Diller into 4th place and then gained her revenge on Pasko 5-2 in the rematch. Amanda Smith was sitting comfortably in her first tour hot-seat and Rhee was determined to show her why they call it “hot”. Rhee won the first set 7-4 but Smith refocused and came right out in the second set to go up 3-1. The battle continued until the score inevitably wound up at 6-6. Rhee would drop the final 9-ball however taking home $360 with $230 going to Smith.

Rhee stretches her women’s points lead while Keith McCready and Amar Kang trade spots at the top yet again. The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour’s next event has moved to First Break Café in Sterling, VA for the July 19/20 weekend. June 2 - Mike Davis rolls and Sueyen Rhee repeats on the Falcon Cue Tour

The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour returned from spring break to hold stop #7 at the newest addition to the Champions Billiards Café chain in Frederick, MD on May 31 and June 1. The $2000 added event made possible by Falcon Cues and Champions attracted 77players and 17 in the Women’s division. The huge bar, multiple big-screen TV’s, good food and friendly wait staff and managers all contributed to a great atmosphere while the tournament played out in the separate area for pool tables.

Mike Davis has been playing well and appeared to be the early favorite especially with the absence of the top 2 points leaders Amar Kang and Keith McCready. There were no big surprises Saturday afternoon as most of the top players advanced. Champions is a popular Saturday night hot spot and the field was only narrowed down to 32 players moving on to Sunday.

The real action was Sunday afternoon as top players began running into each other. The final four undefeated side saw Pooky Rasmeloungon versus Jim Henson with Brian O'Donnell taking on Mike Davis. Pooky was the 2002 points winner with Brian winning in 2001. “Shorty” is a top national amateur player and Mike has been making noise in recent professional tournaments. When it was over, Henson had defeated Rasmeloungon 9-8 with Davis taking down O’Donnell 9-4. Davis then slid into the hot seat with a 9-7 victory over Henson. On the 1-loss side, Rasmeloungon stopped O’Donnell placing him into 4th. He then continued on to gain his revenge over Henson with a 7-1 drubbing setting up a highly anticipated final with Davis. The first game went to Davis but Rasmeloungon took the next 6 games with some picture perfect shooting and a rare miss from Davis. A few games later Davis had settled down and brought the score back to 6-5. Rasmeloungon stretched his lead to 8-5 before Davis clawed back in to reach 8-8 in the race to 9. Nothing fell on the break though and Davis quietly watched Rasmeloungon at thetable. An uncharacteristic position error left a tough 7-ball cut which hung up in the corner. Davis cleaned it up and took home $1100 for the 1st place prize. Rasmeloungon settled for $700.

The McCready/Kang rivalry has been heating up as these 2 have played several times recently and are #1 and #2 respectively on the 2003 points list.
