Another Bus Attack Reported
BALTIMORE — Maryland Transit Administration officials are investigating a second reported assault on a bus in the last week.
Patrick Green and Robert Rothe told WBAL TV 11 News that they were antagonized and attacked after boarding the No. 64 bus late Monday night in south Baltimore.
The men, who are white, said the attackers yelled racial slurs and that no one on board, including the driver, stepped in to stop the attack. MTA surveillance cameras captured four men boarding the bus at the Hanover Street stop Monday night, moments before Green and Rothe got on.
Green and Rothe said they believe other passengers were afraid to help and that the driver refused to call for help.
“We were saying the whole time to the driver, ‘You need to help us, call the police,’” Green told 11 News reporter Kerry Cavanaugh. “He said, ‘I can’t. I’ll get in trouble.’”
Roth said the driver closed the door and drove away, even though the attack continued once they got off the bus.
“We could’ve been left on the side of the road, dead,” Rothe said.
MTA officials said the driver of the bus is currently not operating a vehicle while the incident is being investigated.
MTA officials said they’re not currently classifying the incident as a hate crime. They said they’re simply calling it a common assault. (more…)
This call for aggressive hate crime laws is not looking good for Black folks these days. Yes I am fully aware that most crimes take place within ethnic groups and this is not the norm for the entire Black race (I have been around that bush many times online), but com’on!!!!
For those of you that have been readers of this site for at least the past 6 months or so, you know that I have regularly covered Black on Black homicides on this site and the impact that it is having on the community (One post that comes to mind contains videos of 2 mothers pleading with the community to do something to stop the mess–in fact, there is a short video clip on the left sidebar that features the impact it is having from the perspective of funeral directors–just keep refreshing this page and it should appear). So you know good and doggone well this is not about cherry-picking a Black-against-White incident and using it to “bash” Black folk. Although I was not one of the many out there that took part in the ‘wear black day’ in support of the Jena 6, I did want to see these boys get the justice they deserved. I feel the same way in these latest (now two) incidents in Baltimore.
Let’s face it, crime is a huge problem in Baltimore like many other cities. So I am not about to hold this one up as a ‘special case’ just because of the race of the victims. What I will do is to once again call your attention to EVERY NEGRO OUT THERE who raise pure hell every time someone Black has been violated by Whites. If they really want justice and want to be taken seriously, they can start by being consistent.
For a blog of this type, this site generates a very good amount of traffic that typically does not get a whole lot of comments or is acknowledged much in Technorati universe, so like any other post I do not expect much action off of this one. But as always, the door is open to all of my critics out there who feel that bringing stuff up like this is “beating Black folks up”. Honestly, there is nothing really to argue about.
