According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, Ryan Braun could report to Brewers' camp without a resolution on his PED appeal case.

Passan was told that the hope is there will be a resolution by next week, though it may not happen until the week after. Braun is scheduled to report to Brewers' camp on February 24. He will be able to participate in spring training games regardless of whether his 50-game suspension sticks.

Shawn Camp's new one-year contract with the Mariners is worth $750,000.

Camp agreed to the deal earlier this month. The 36-year-old right-hander posted a 4.21 ERA and 32/22 K/BB ratio over 66 1/3 innings with the Blue Jays in 2011. The ground ball specialist will pitch in a middle relief role with the M's this season.

Reds signed RHP Brett Tomko to a minor league contract.

It's not clear if the deal includes a spring training invite. Tomko, who turns 39 in April, posted a 4.58 ERA and 14/10 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings with the Rangers last season, but spent most of the year at the Triple-A level. Of course, Tomko was originally drafted by the Reds in 1995 and spent the first three years of his major league career with the club.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox will not be among the teams who will watch Scott Kazmir throw Friday in Houston.

Kazmir was originally scheduled to throw for scouts on Wednesday, but the session was pushed back to Friday for an unknown reason. The 28-year-old left-hander will almost certainly have to settle for a minor league deal. The Mets, who originally drafted Kazmir in 2002, are one of the teams expected to be in attendance.

According to Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York, the Yankees will receive $13-to-15 million in salary relief if the A.J. Burnett trade to the Pirates is completed.

Burnett is owed $33 million over the next two years, so the Pirates will pay anywhere from 39 percent to 45 percent of his remaining salary. If they end up covering the high end of that range, it's less likely the Yankees will receive notable prospects in return. There's still plenty of optimism that a deal will get done, but one source told Marchand that it's more likely to happen over the weekend rather than Friday. MLB would need to approve the deal because of the money being exchanged.
Feb 16 - 5:47 PM

Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said Thursday that Brandon Inge will get a chance to compete for the starting second base job during spring training.

Leyland apparently wants to clinch having the worst infield defense of all-time. While Inge is known as a strong defender at the hot corner, he has never played an inning at second base during his entire professional career. The odds are against the 34-year-old making a smooth transition, but he'll apparently be thrown into the mix with Ryan Raburn, Ramon Santiago and Danny Worth.
Feb 16 - 4:59 PM

Rays signed C Chris Gimenez to a minor league contract.

He'll also get a spring training invite. Gimenez elected free agency earlier this week after being designated for assignment by the Mariners. The 29-year-old backstop batted just .203/.314/.271 over 70 plate appearances in the majors last year. He also has experience playing first base and the corner outfield spots.
Feb 16 - 4:50 PM

Ken Davidoff of New York Newsday reports that the Pirates and Yankees have agreed to which players would go to New York in a potential A.J. Burnett trade.

The Yankees are expected to receive a couple B-level prospects who aren't on the Pirates' 40-man roster, so this was never going to be a major hang-up on a potential deal. The big issue remains whether the Pirates will cover $13 million of the $33 million remaining on Burnett's contract. However, Davidoff, like most writers, seems to believe that a deal remains likely. Though there's no formal deadline on talks, the thought is that something could get done before Yankees' pitchers and catchers report to spring training Sunday in Tampa, Florida.
