REVIEW: No Trigger – Tycoon
Artist: No Trigger
Album: Tycoon
Genre: Punk/Rock
Label: No Sleep
For this review of No Trigger’s new album to make sense, you need to understand a little more about me than just a faceless music reviewer. My name is Tyler, and I’m turning 20 years old in 8 days from when this was published. Right now I’m taking a break from going to school so that I can work 60 hours a week in order to go back to school. I sit in a cubicle for eight hours a day, then for the next four I troubleshoot computers …

REVIEW: Ashland High – Geronimo
Artist: Ashland High
Album: Geronimo
Genre: Electro/pop
Label: (None)
The debut album from Trace Cyrus’ new musical project is a polarising work. Cyrus actually shows some unexpected potential for the electro-pop genre, distancing himself from the Metro Station (RIP) past which highlighted a flair for disposable, glossy chart tunes but hardly any real musical merit. Information on this project online is sparse, which is a shame as it’s nowhere near the lacklustre rehash we judgmental types might have expected. Indeed, there’s a lot of very catchy and likeable tunes on Geronimo. There are just as many unconvincing disasters loitering starkly …

MOVIE REVIEW: Rampart
Film: Rampart
Starring: Woody Harrelson
Directed by: Oren Moverman
Giving his best performance in years, Woody Harrelson shines in the gritty L.A. noir Rampart, but even his best efforts are not enough to keep this often tedious story afloat.
Set in 1999 Los Angeles, Rampart follows veteran police officer Dave Brown (Harrelson) and his, to say the least, unique approach to police work. He’s hot-headed, more than a bit racist, and willing to do whatever it takes to make sure he survives the jungle of the city as his lifetime of misdoings slowly begins to catch up to him, …

Sex, Drugs, And Bubblegum Pop (Week 33)
Sex, Drugs, And Bubblegum Pop is the most outlandish column on UTG. Written by Mr. Jayce, vocalist for Secret Secret Dino Club and all-round funny guy, this column isn’t as much about the music as it is the experiences people in the music industry have.
WARNING: This column does and will continue to contain content some readers may find offensive. If you don’t have a sense of humor, this column is probably not for you.

There has been a big transition in my life over how I view the value of songs and music. It probably has to …

Former Gallows frontman Frank Carter performed his first ever show with his new band Pure Love and it went over quite well! Pure Love had their show at Bush Hall, in London, England, and played a new song called “Anthem.” This tune was a slower song, showcasing Frank’s incredible singing ability.
Please click through the jump to view Pure Love and let Under The Gun if you are a fan of Frank’s new band. It seems like the guys are making great progress with their music. Read more »

Billy Talent‘s drummer Aaron Solowoniuk has revealed to the band’s fans that due to his recent open-heart surgery, to repair a leaky aortic valve, they will have to cancel festival appearances. Read the official statement by simply looking below and comment with your thoughts. We hope the best for Aaron and his recovery process!
“I never thought I would have to write another letter like this. In March of 2006, I wrote a letter telling you all I have MS. Now I am writing to tell you that I have a problem with my heart that needed to be fixed. On Feb 2nd, I had open-heart surgery to repair a leaky aortic valve. It’s going to take a couple months before I start feeling normal again.
In the meantime Jonny, Ben and Ian will be putting the finishing touches on our new record. I finished all of my drums in December so I’m going to take the next few months to get better.
Unfortunately we are going to have to pull out of playing Groezrock in Belgium in April. We were really looking forward to this as it was the perfect show to start touring this record. So many of our friends will be there and to share the stage with Refused was a dream come true.
To all our fans in Belgium, we promise we will make this up to you. For now, please look forward to a new single soon and new album in July.
The surgery went perfect but healing takes a while. No other shows will be affected and I look forward to seeing you all in the summer.”

Today is, as my internet pen pal that I met on 4chan would say, full of win. In addition to a brilliant Jason Mraz music video, this Friday has blessed us with a brand new clip from John Mayer’s upcoming album Born and Raised. This is the first clip we have heard from John’s new material and I think I speak for all of his fans when I say that what we hear is exciting indeed.
While John started writing this new material in October of 2010, he has had a rough time musically since then. Originally planned for an October 2011 release, Born and Raised was pushed after a September announcement revealing that the singer had granulomas near his vocal cords and that he would need treatment and time to heal. The following month, Mayer had surgery and then set off across the country to take in the sights.
There is no official date set on Born and Raised just yet, but we expect one to be coming along quite soon. In the meantime, fans can sate themselves past the bump where we have the 60 second clip for “Shadow Days.” Read more »

We first heard about Alesana side project, Tempting Paris in 2010. In the months prior to The Emptiness’ release, small hints at the project were given in various interviews, a myspace page was made, and then things went quiet. Two years later, Tempting Paris has re-risen and it appears as if material is prepared and ready for the next step. Come the end of March, the project will take musical flight because the members will be recording at that time.
Tempting Paris’ members include Shawn Milke, his sister Melissa Milke (who has provided the female vocals on every Alesana record), Patrick Thompson, and Joey Mitchell (from Swampcandy) and producer Kris Crummett. This promises to be a very interesting project and we’ll be keeping a close eye on the recording progress. Stay tuned and keep up with us on our social networks!
