I’m always preaching about how movie productions companies have a continuity department so that if the guy’s shirt is untucked in take 1, it stays untucked in take 2 so the two can be edited together.
Well, it seems like some Continuity folk are sleeping on the job. Like on the set of Pretty Woman where one second she’s eating a pancake and the next second the pancake turns into a croissant. Or where a balloon turns into a woman’s face. Or Hugh Grant’s stain on his shirt disappears. Or Brad Pitt takes off his jacket without taking it off.
As entrepreneurs, we gotta make sure we don’t make similar continuity gaffes. Like saying we stand for one thing and doing another, being inconsistent. Check out these continuity mistakes here.

Kevin O’Leary who’s on Shark Tank, Dragon’s Den, Redemption Inc. is always talking about how it’s all about the money. I guess it starts young. Watch this!

Just walked my daughter to the bus stop and on the way back I saw a truck marked Poop Patrol and my first thought was now there’s a business who gets it.
Simple offering. Here’s the scoop. They stoop to pick up your poop. Well, not your poop. Your dog’s poop. From your stoop. [OK, I'll stop it!] From your yard. From your grass. So you don’t have to. It has a cute name that clearly communicates what they offer. [It could have been Canine Waste Removal. Yuck.] They’re narrow in their focus.
And they’re not boring!
They could become a gateway business, partnering with a bunch of other businesses to provide other dog-related stuff or even open other divisions to do it themselves. Would you like us to walk your dog after we de-poopify your yard? Would you like a Poop-Free sign for your lawn? How ’bout some Canine Digestive Vitamins so your dog has an easier time pooping? Would you like an I Don’t Stoop for Poop T-Shirt?
The possibilities are endless. Or they could stick to poop.
Brian Scudamore made a fortune hauling junk.
It doesn’t have to be more complicated than this. There’s always opportunity for creative focused entrepreneurs.

[ http://www.youtube.com/embed/LrUfKrQpQbg ]I’ve been coaching entrepreneurs to attract publicity for almost 10 years and I’ve been very satisfied with my own publicity adventures. However, stepping into the spotlight is not without risk. I have a client who has always resisted publicity, voicing concern about the risks, i.e. being made to look bad instead of good.
While this kind of interview is rare for the average entrepreneur (I’ve had mostly “puff pieces”), watch as this dancer gets lambasted by this news reporter.* Always try to sniff out the angle ahead of time if you can and don’t be afraid to say “no”. I certainly have turned down media when it didn’t feel right. I wonder if Dance Chick had any warning. Maybe she did. Sun News promotes itself as Hard News and Straight Talk. Dance Chick maintains her poise pretty well under fire.
* This is not an indictment of the reporter by the way, even thought the aggressive interview did create an uproar here in we-like-to-be-polite Canada. With long wait times for medical procedures and other budget constraints, the public has the right to know about the million dollars spent on this.

Funny ’cause I’d been thinking of this recently, some of the words people have used to describe me over the years. My favorites are refreshing, irreverent & real. Came across this video below. Good challenge. Ask your clients, colleagues or check out reviews of your work. What are your 3 words?

Breaking News! According to the Chicago Sun Times “Paula Abdul [has been] fired from ‘The X Factor’ because she was too ‘soft’ ”
Funny ’cause in Step Into The Spotlight!, I teased Paula about exactly that, being too soft. It was a bit embarrassing a couple of years later when I had to come clean with her about that when I handed her a copy of my book. She she laughed it off and said she’s used to it. She then demonstrated that she’s a classy chick by graciously sending a copy of the book to the peeps at American Idol.
Paula Abdul is a survivor. Like Joan Rivers, she’s had to keep proving herself over and over and over again, but she’s still here and I’m sure she’ll be in the spotlight longer than most.
I was a bigger fan of Simon than Paula when they were on Idol together but by the time she reached X Factor, I had learned to respect that her role is also an important one. Someone has to be supportive of the contestants so they don’t leave and jump off a bridge. Paula is a supporter. The woman has heart and I wish her nothing but the best! She’ll be back!

I thought these were action photos of Steve Jobs until the very end when I noticed the ball joints at his wrist. Madam Tussaud meets GI Joe.
The company that planned to release these figures changed it’s mind due, according the the Silicon Valley Mercury News, to pressure from the family & from Apple.
“Though we still believe that we have not overstepped any legal boundaries, we have decided to completely stop the offer, production and sale of the Steve Jobs figurine out of our heartfelt sensitivity to the feelings of the Jobs family.”
You know you’ve achieved Icon status when they want to make a doll out of you. I did a search to see if there was a Donald Trump action figure and sure enough, there is, available for a mere $9.99. Am I the only one who finds this a tiny little weeny bit CREEPY?

It’s not always that hard to stand out, to engage your audience. I think it has something to do with that old box we’re supposed to think outside of…
