Scheduling

Les Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie de Ghar El Melh have become the great appointment of photography in Tunisia. Photographers from all sides: confirmed, new, children and the general public expect the last week of June to look, listen, do speak… all the senses will be arrested. Exhibits, workshops, panel discussions, slide shows a menu is also gratifying that teaching.
Exposures
Since its invention, photography continues to metamorphose, to the point where it seems that every photographer, creating its subject, invents its own medium. Each edition of the Rencontres is an anthology of looks from here and elsewhere previously. Venues from abroad or Tunisia, exhibitions are always a certain way of seeing the world. In Bamako as in Arles, Paris or Barcelona, the organisers: commissioner or curator, s’ingénient to build a theme events. In the exhibition galleries Fort Ghar El Melh – former penal colony – where for a long time any event basic freedom was banned today no restrictions are imposed. Meetings Ghar El Melh are a tribute, always renewed, the photographers who sublimate life.

Carte Blanche collectors The exhibitions last year Mustapha Bouchoucha and Victor Sebag had a great success. This year Beit Bennani and Iadh Behi return to submit their shots heart. “Anonymous” is a selection of photographs without mention delved into the fund Beit Bennani, but whose documentary value is undeniable. It is also possible to meet a different picture, known as plastic, worked or “photoshopée”, which spans areas, erases labels and demystifies history.
The first provided a wealth of world-famous photographers, a significant amount of works that take the icon. The second, because newer, less is known to the public. Visible only in the galleries, it is for the moment, confidential.
These two photographs meet sometimes violently, through their tenants, with arguments by critics texts and rarely through the works or theories.
All of this leads inevitably to, once again, seeking a definition of photography and a statute for the photographer.

Round Tables II: “The photograph in these relations with the media”
(Led by Mohamed Elhedef, journalist and photographer)

What information should be mostly in their paper version without photographs? A non-illustrated article seems sometimes suspect because the photographers, amateur or professional, are ubiquitous. But this beautiful marriage between the press and the picture is sometimes acrimonious. The scenes of households are becoming common to the point where it is periodically to the brink of collapse.
Photographs published out of context of achievement, false stories, even photographers who manipulate their works have become commonplace.
Like always trains arriving on time and nobody speaks and who become the subject of a scandal without precedent when one of them shows a slight delay, photography fills often marvel at its role . The debate, introduced by a review of photographs that have surprised, shocked or outraged, analyze the path that follows an image of the photographer drive. Course mined, chaotic and often dangerous.

The Night meetings
The evenings of meetings will be set aside for photography, how can it be otherwise, thirst that we organize and you look. In the vast courtyard of the first fort, projections will be organized to add to the vision, the sound of music accompanying commentary or a photographer. Jean Claude – alias Father Fourat – Imed and Donia show every night bêtisier Encounters. This year, a slide show will allow the public to assess programmes carried out by photographers who hope to win “The challenge for Ghar El Melh” trophy that will crown the creativity and boldness.

Photography workshop for children and adults
The workshops, as their name suggests, are more than one site preparations. The result does not count more than the work leading thereto. “The Wall images”, “Life, face and portrait”, “Their photos… our legends”, “Family Album,” are some of the workshops where children give free rein to their imagination, fantasy and innocence. The photographers will be invited to take part and children by the hand to the wonderful world of photography.

Journal of Meetings
Le Corsaire écumera the shores of Ghar El Melh for the third consecutive year. Auditors reported the course of the event, interviews with photographers, citations to remember, excerpts book to read, memorize vocabulary, helping heart of poets, are the topics.

Photo Academy
The Academy of Art in Carthage is a new private school to teach photography in Tunisia. With equipment at the cutting edge of technology, experienced teachers will be glad to show you how to use your digital camera, make a portrait studio and exploit the possibilities of Photoshop. A team of students from this institution will cover the highlights of the day and will screen his interviews and reports each evening.

What other event could pay tribute to Abdelhamid Kahia? Les Rencontres hope enroll in the Tunisian landscape photography as a reference to consult. A slide show, made after his great book “Tunisia” published in 1964, will explore photography Abdelhamid Kahia, one of the few masters of photography Tunisia.

After midnight
“After midnight” is a meeting, informal and relaxed on the beach of Sidi Ali El Mekki, where interrogations, which have always accompanied the photographer, will be raised. What is a good photograph? The photographer must seek to be happy or to please the public? And the art market! Should we follow or ignore? These are some of the questions which no reply has been unanimously. Here and nowhere else, the digressions are allowed if desired, photography leads to everything and what better place to escape the starry sky of Tunisia and the beach of Sidi Ali El Mekki? The echoes of discussions last year, which ended at sunrise, still resonate today. Some went to bed others have had enough strength to go eat doughnuts and start a new day. The meeting is also this: a performance of physical endurance.

Programme

Les Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie de Ghar El Melh sont devenues le grand rendez-vous de la photographie en Tunisie. Photographes de tous bords : confirmés, nouveaux, enfants et le grand public attendent la dernière semaine du mois de juin pour regarder, écouter, faire, s’exprimer…tout les sens seront interpellés. Expositions, ateliers, tables rondes, diaporamas constituent un menu aussi réjouissant que didactique.
Les expositions
Depuis son invention, la photographie ne cesse de se métamorphoser, au point qu’il semble que chaque photographe, en créant son sujet, invente son propre médium. Chaque édition des Rencontres est un florilège de regards venus d’ici, d’ailleurs et de naguère. Venues de l’étranger ou de Tunisie, les expositions sont toujours une certaine manière de voir le monde. A Bamako comme à Arles, à Paris ou à Barcelone, les organisateurs : commissaire ou curateur, s’ingénient à constituer des manifestations à thème. Dans les galeries d’exposition du Fort de Ghar El Melh – ancien bagne – où pendant longtemps toute manifestation élémentaire de la liberté était bannie, aujourd’hui aucune restriction n’est imposée. Les Rencontres de Ghar El Melh sont un hommage, toujours renouvelé, aux photographes qui subliment la vie.

Carte blanche aux collectionneurs
Les expositions consacrées l’année dernière à Mustapha Bouchoucha et à Victor Sebag ont eu un franc succès. Cette année Beit Bennani et Iadh Behi reviennent pour nous proposer leurs coups de cÅ“ur. “Anonymes” est un choix de photographies sans mention puisé dans le fonds de Beit Bennani, mais dont la valeur documentaire est indéniable. Soler fut pendant longtemps le photographe que tout Tunis s’arrachait, il était le photographe des cérémonies officielles, le reporter dont les photos illustraient les revues du début du XX^e siècle et un portraitiste de talent. Iadh Behi nous propose un choix du savoir faire de ce photographe.

Tables ronde I : “Les photographies d’aujourd’hui”
(Dirigée par Amar Dhaya, Universitaire)

Il est possible de considérer la photographie comme un domaine qui se suffit à lui-même, brassant un panorama aussi large que le permet l’imagination du photographe tout en se contenant du photographique. Il est aussi possible de rencontrer une photographie différente, dite plasticienne, travaillée ou « photoshopée », qui enjambe les domaines, efface les étiquettes et démythifie l’histoire.
La première a fourni une pléiade de photographes de notoriété mondiale, une quantité importante d’œuvres qui tiennent de l’icône. La seconde, parce que plus récente, est moins connue du public. Visible uniquement dans les galeries, elle est, pour le moment, confidentielle.
Ces deux photographies se rencontrent parfois violemment, par l’intermédiaire de leurs tenants, par des arguments, par des textes critiques et rarement par l’entremise d’œuvres ou de théories.
Tout ceci mène inéluctablement vers, une fois encore, la recherche d’une définition de la photographie et un statut pour le photographe.

Tables ronde II : “La photographie dans ces relations avec les médias”
(Dirigée par Mohamed Elhedef, journaliste et photographe)

Que seront les informations surtout dans leur version papier sans les photographies ? Un article non-illustré parait parfois suspect car les photographes, amateurs ou professionnels, sont omniprésents. Mais ce beau mariage entre la presse et la photo, est parfois houleux. Les scènes de ménages sont de plus en fréquentes au point que l’on est périodiquement au bord de la rupture.
Des photos publiées hors de leur contexte de réalisation, des légendes mensongères, des photographes qui vont jusqu’à manipuler leur œuvres sont devenus monnaie courante.
Tout comme les trains qui arrivent toujours à l’heure et dont personne ne parle et qui deviennent le sujet d’un scandale sans précédent dès que l’un d’eux accuse un léger retard, la photographie remplit, souvent, son rôle à merveille. Ce débat, introduit par une revue de photographies qui ont étonné, choqué ou scandalisé, analysera le chemin que suit une image du photographe au lecteur. Parcours miné, chaotique et souvent dangereux.

Les Nocturnes
Les soirées des Rencontres seront réservées à la photographie, comment peut-il en être autrement, assoiffés que nous sommes d’organiser et vous de regarder. Dans l’immense cour du premier fort, des projections seront organisées afin d’ajouter à la vision, le son d’une musique d’accompagnement ou le commentaire d’un photographe. Jean Claude – alias Père Fourat -, Imed et Donia montreront chaque soir le bêtisier des Rencontres. Cette année, un concours de diaporama permettra au public d’apprécier des programmes réalisés par des photographes qui espèrent décrocher “Le challenge de Ghar El Melh”, trophée qui couronnera la créativité et l’audace.

Atelier de photographie pour enfants et adultes
Les ateliers, comme leur nom l’indique, sont plus un chantier qu’un préparatif. Le résultat ne compte pas plus que le travail y menant. “Le Mur aux images”, “Vie, visage et portrait”, ” Leurs photos…nos légendes”, « album de famille », sont quelque uns des ateliers où les enfants donneront libre cours à leur imagination, fantaisie et innocence. Les photographes invités seront de la partie et emmèneront les enfants par la main vers le monde merveilleux de la photo.

Journal des Rencontres
Le Corsaire écumera les rivages de Ghar El Melh pour la troisième année consécutive. Comptes rendu du déroulement de la manifestation, interviews de photographes, citations à retenir, extraits d’ouvrage à lire, lexique à mémoriser, coup de cÅ“ur de poètes, en constituent les rubriques.

Photo académie
L’Académie d’Art de Carthage est un nouvel établissement privé d’enseignement de la photographie en Tunisie. Avec un matériel à la pointe de la technologie, des enseignants expérimentés se feront un plaisir de vous montrer comment utiliser votre appareil photo numérique, réaliser un portrait en studio et exploiter les possibilités de Photoshop. Une équipe constituée d’élèves de cette institution couvrira les moments forts de la journée et projettera ses interviews et ses reportages chaque soir.

Retour sur une Å“uvre, la photographie de A. Kahia
Quelle autre manifestation pourrait rendre hommage à Abdelhamid Kahia ? Les Rencontres espèrent s’inscrire dans le paysage photographique tunisien en tant que référence à consulter. Un diaporama, réalisé d’après son fabuleux ouvrage “Tunisie” paru en 1964, permettra d’explorer la photographie de Abdelhamid Kahia, un des rares maîtres de la photographie tunisienne.

Après minuit
« Après minuit » est une rencontre, informelle et décontractée sur la plage de Sidi Ali El Mekki, où les interrogations, qui ont toujours accompagné le photographe, seront posées. Qu’est ce qu’une bonne photographie ? Le photographe doit-il chercher à se faire plaisir ou à plaire au public ? Et le marché de l’art ! Faut-il le suivre ou l’ignorer ? Ce sont là quelque unes des interrogations dont aucune réponse n’a fait l’unanimité. Ici et nulle part ailleurs, les digressions sont permises voire souhaitées, la photographie mène à tout et quel meilleur lieu d’évasion que le ciel étoilé de la Tunisie et la plage de Sidi Ali El Mekki ? Les échos des discussions de l’année dernière, qui finissaient au lever du soleil, résonnent encore aujourd’hui. Certains sont allés se coucher d’autres ont eu assez de force pour aller déguster des beignets et commencer une nouvelle journée. Les rencontres, c’est aussi cela : une performance d’endurance physique.
