pregnancy

Pregnancy is the term used to describe when a female is carrying one or more fetuses or embryos inside her womb. Generally a pregnancy term is an average of 37-42 weeks.


Pregnancy occurs after the egg is released during ovulation. Once the egg is released, it is then fertilized by sperm. The fertilized egg then travels towards the uterus, attaching itself to the uterine lining in a process called implantation.

Pregnancies can happen spontaneously as a result of sexual intercourse or via artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization (IVF). During pregnancy, the women goes through a serious of changes that are broken down by three trimesters. Her estimated due date is 40 weeks from the first day of her last menstrual cycle. Other terms that refer to pregnancy include prenatal period, gestation, term, and first, second and third trimesters.
