Resilient Introspective Machines

Posted 21 Nov 2006 at 01:04 UTC by steve Share This

Markus Waibel writes, "Thought you might like to know that Hod Lipson, Viktor Zykov and Josh Bongard just published a Science paper on a robot that can cope with damage, such as losing a leg. Their robot continuously tries to improve its own internal model of itself, and can thus discover when it is damaged and, more importantly, adapt its movements to compensate." For more see the AAAS Science Now article or the Cornell Robotic Introspecition: Self-Modeling website, which also has lots of photos and video of the Black Starfish robot used in their research.
