Santorum’s Not-Mitt Moment: Up in Polls and Ingenious New Ad

Rick Santorum has at long last got his Not-Mitt moment. He is surging in the polls and he’s launched a new ad that avoids the meanness that characterized the Gingrich ads from the last few months.

The ad successfully uses humor to skewer Mitt Romney’s negative attack machine that he’s successfully used against every opponent — something that has been common with Mitt’s campaigns since all the way back to the 1990s.

Rasmussen shows him up three points over Romney in Michigan. The poll finds Santorum at 35%, Romney at 32%, and Gingrich way down at 11% — Even Ron Paul polls at 13% in Michigan showing that Gingrich really has cratered from his earlier Non-Mitt highs.

Iran goes aggressive as Obama cuts Defense Budget

Iran is becoming more aggressive just as Barack Obama makes deep cuts in our defense budget. Two attacks directed at Israel embassy personnel this week in India and Georgia (Eastern Europe), as well as three bombings in Thailand yesterday. Also on Tuesday, Iran sent small attack boats to within 2 miles of the Abraham Lincoln carrier battle group as it steamed through the Strait of Hormuz. A US Navy helicopter dropped flares near the attack boats as a warning for them to withdraw. Today, Iran announces that it is just two steps away from being completely self-sufficient in producing nuclear fuel. Another indication that the Tehran government has no intentions of backing away from its nuclear ambitions. Iran also announced that it will consider suspending oil sales to six European nations which are participating in economic sanctions. This is helping to drive up oil prices today to over $101 a barrel.

NASA Lunar Outpost proposed as Obama cuts Space Budget

The proposal for a NASA lunar outpost to be built at the L-2 LaGrange point may get canceled now that Barack Obama is cutting the space program′s budget for 2013. Somebody better tell Newt Gingrich about this! The proposal was very simply to build a ′waypoint′ at the L-2 LaGrange point, also known as a ′libration point′, one of five areas about the Earth where the gravitational effects of the Earth and Moon equal each other. Thus, such locations are ideal for use as jumping off points for exploring deep space, as less fuel would be needed to get under way. The L-2 position is about 60,000 miles beyond the Moon′s 239,000 mile average distance. It is also slightly behind the Moon as it orbits the Earth.

Penn State Has Spent $3.2 Million in Scandal Defense

This has certainly been the winter of discontent at Penn State. It began when charges of child sexual abuse were raised against former assistant coach and campus mainstay Jerry Sandusky on November 5. It was revealed that the university had knowledge of a 2002 incident when Sandusky allegedly sexually abused a young boy in the showers of the locker room on campus. This led to the resignation of the university president, Graham Spanier and the firing of other officials, including legendary football coach, Joe Paterno. Then as the grand jury was meeting to determine which charges, if any, Sandusky should face, it was revealed that Paterno had lung cancer. Soon after, he passed away, reinvigorating the campus turmoil that arose when he was dismissed.

Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton, Affair Revisited on PBS Documentary

The upcoming PBS documentary ″American Experience: Clinton″ will take a fresh look at the affair between Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. Many former White House staffers dish up some new insights, including Dick Morris and Marla Crider. Also interviewed are Betsey Wright and author Ken Gormley in the documentary film by Barak Goodman, scheduled to be aired the next two weeks. Yes, we turn back the clock and remember all the fun of blue dresses, Newt Gingrich, Ken Starr and Hillary Clinton. Of course, much of the documentary will be about other matters, but needless to say, the Clinton-Lewinsky affair will play a big role in the film.

Osama Bin Laden and his Children, No to Jihad and Yes to the West

An interview with Zakaria al-Sadah in The Sunday Times Osama bin Laden and his children very close. According to al-Sadah, a brother-in-law to bin Laden, the terrorist leader did not want his children to ′follow him down the road to jihad′ nor join Al Qaeda. In fact, Bin Laden wanted his children to be at peace with the West and live in the United States in order to get a good education. Bin Laden was killed last May during a raid by US Navy Seals in Pakistan.
