Anna Wintour Took the Subway (for a Photo Op), Thom Browne Joins Twitter

2012_02_Anna-Wintour-Hamish-Bowles-Victoria-Beckham.jpg

· STFU: Anna Wintour, Hamish Bowles, Victoria Beckham, and Keren Craig took the subway today. It was a photo op for the U.K.'s tourism campaign called "GREAT," but it still happened. [The Cut]

· And speaking of Victoria Beckham photo ops, here she is pretending to grab David Beckhams balls in his H&M underwear ads. We're very disappointed in ourselves for not thinking of it first. [Buzzfeed]

· Vice sent a reporter to the Topshop Unique show last season on acid, and for a totally different type of show experience this year, they sent someone to the Westminster Dog Show, on acid. Needless to say, there was no awkward run in with Naomi Campbell. [Vice]

· Thom Browne has officially joined Twitter, just in time to post a whole bunch of backstage photos from the fall shows. [Thom Browne/Twitter]

· Today, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs of Cushnie et Ochs rang the NASDAQ stock market closing bell. At 4pm, they officially closed the day's trading, but for fashion folk, it was the gong to signal the end of fashion week and an alert to hit the bars immediately. [Globe Newswire]

Norma Kamali Showed Her Fall Collection on Cardboard Models

At her presentation this morning, Norma Kamali decided to show her fall collection on cardboard models, instead of using real ones. (This, on one hand, does eliminate the underaged-model issue.) The presentation was also the launch of Kamali Kulture, the lower-priced line that's under $100 and currently available for pre-order.

And even though these weren't real models, they still towered over everyone else, in all of their massive, cardboard-cutout glory. The idea was cute, but there's something that's just a little bit nerve racking about bumping into larger-than-life paper that's also wearing polka dots. Click through the gallery above for a look at the "clothes."

Update: We've been informed that the cutouts are actually Norma Kamali's official "Glamazons," and you can find them towering over you at her flagship boutique in NYC.

The Glamour for Opening Ceremony Cat Sweater Has Landed

2012_2_Glamour.jpg

Glamour magazine's cat sweater collab with Opening Ceremony arrived online today, and just in case you were a little uncertain about wearing a giant cat face on your chest, Glamour has seeded the garment to fashion insiders so you can see how cute it looks in real life. (That's Glamour editor Susan Cerenak and bloggers Susie Bubble and Kelly Framel there, showing you how to make cats cool.) If you're convinced, one nice thing about the collaboration is that it's relatively affordable for Opening Ceremony: Whereas most items typically run $300 and up, this little number retails for $99.

Whitney Port's Not-So-Fall Fall Collection for Whitney Eve

This morning, Whitney Port, who you probably know from The Hills and The City fame, put on her very first Whitney Eve show at Lincoln Center. And before we get to anything else, let's just say that Tyson Beckford was there, who you probably know from "Un-Break My Heart" (and other things) fame.

While we enjoyed the collection, some of it felt a little bit summery for a fall, no? Perhaps all that LA sunshine Whitney's been soaking up since birth played a role in that. Regardless, take a look through the gallery above for a few of our favorite looks.

Gloria Estafan and Narciso Rodriquez Share a Love of Coral

2012_2_Narciso.jpg

Two colors that are going to be huge next season: Olive and coral. We've seen them everywhere this week, and last tonight's Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2012 runway show had plenty of both.

You know what else it had? Gloria Estafan, who successfully managed to upstage every other celebrity in the room, including front-row seat neighbor Tory Burch. Besides doing that, guess what else she was doing. She was wearing the hell out of a form-fitting coral dress. So, yeah, like we said. Coral. Huge.

Macy's Legal Battle With Martha Stewart Now a "Hostage" Situation

2012_02_Martha-Stewart-macys.jpg
Happier times. Photo credit: Getty Images

In what's an interesting use of the word, Macy's has declared that its ongoing legal battle with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is now officially a "hostage" situation. If you haven't been keeping up, here's the gist according to WWD: Last month, Macy's sued Martha Stewart for a breach of contract, when her home goods company that's carried at Macy's also signed a deal with J.C. Penney. Martha said that it was actually Macy's who was doing the contract breaching, because they failed to "maximize net sales" of her products.

Then, Macy's amended their initial complaint to add: "MSLO's new assertion that Macy's has breached the agreement is being made by MSLO in bad faith, is manufactured out of whole cloth, and is by all appearances nothing more than a tactic dreamed up by MSLO's lawyers to improve MSLO's litigation or settlement posture." Burn.

So, where do the hostages come in?

Go Ahead and Pre-Order Alexander Wang's Fall 2012 Collection

Alexander Wang's fall 2012 runway show happened only a few days ago, but since Moda Operandi never skips a beat, you can currently pre-order it on the site. There are 20 different looks to choose from, so if you'd like to (pre) purchase an entire outfit, you can do that, or you can mix it up and go piece by piece. Plus, there are accessories—lots of them.

The collection is full of Wang's signature black, white, and leather, with pieces that seem a lot more wearable than some of the more recent collections have been. We like Alexander Wang, as does everyone else, but we like him best when he keeps it nice and simple—you know, as simple as sheer tops and drapey goddess dresses can be. Take a look through the gallery above of the Moda Operandi offerings, and then head here to begin the pre-ordering.

Karen Walker Teaches Us a Thing or Two About Wearing Prints

The show notes for Karen Walker Fall 2012 described the collection as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea meets the Victorian age with a dash of '60s pop. An eclectic reference frame, but not totally out of left field for the quirky Kiwi designer. She's known for prints, and this season's paisleys definitely delivered. Adorning blousy silhouettes and grounded by solid separates, this is a look we are ready to jump on for spring—which, conveniently, we'll be able to do at a fraction of the price, what with her upcoming Anthropologie partnership for the Hi There from Karen Walker diffusion line. While you wait for that to drop, take a gander at the printspirational looks above.

Oscar de la Renta Nail Polish; Neutrogena's Twitter Party; The Scent of NYFW

2012_02_oscar-de-la-renta-nail-polish.jpg

NAILS—So much for nail polish being a fad. Even Oscar de la Renta is getting into the game. He will launch a line of polishes in October, and three of the colors appeared in his show yesterday. From left to right they're Red Carnation, Aubergine, and Larimar. [Birchbox]

SKIN—Today from 2:00-2:30 PM EST, Neutrogena and beauty blogger Amber Katz are hosting a "Twitter party" where you can ask all the questions you want related to skin care and face issues. Though sadly this party doesn't serve cupcakes, but you might finally figure out how to cope with that zit. Use the hashtag #neutrogenaflawlessface. [Racked Inbox]

FRAGRANCE—What does Fashion Week smell like? Luxury candle brand Diptyque helped scent some of NYFW's biggest shows, including Victoria Beckham (their "Figuier" scent) and Rachel Zoe (rose and black currant). Those are both preferable to the usual combo of Pop Chips, nail polish remover, and exhaustion. [Beauty Counter]

Oscar de la Renta's Smiling Models Are Sort of Happy, Sort of Scary

2012_2_Oscar.jpgImages via Getty

Oscar de la Renta definitely gets the award for happiest models of the week. In a pleasant change of pace, his girls were sent down the runway with pretty smiles rather than the the typical expressionless glare. Combine that with his polished '60s-inspired dresses, and the event almost felt more like a debutant ball than a runway show.

You didn't think we didn't leave out the dresses, did you? Our 10 favorites, this way>>

It's Here: The Entire Doo.Ri for Macy's Collection

Doo.Ri's capsule collection for Macy's Impulse landed kind of quietly online and in stores this morning. But though the launch lacked all the fanfare of the recent Jason Wu for Target frenzy, it actually one of the better collaborations we've seen. The clothes are fashionable, but not too trendy, and except for one faux leather jacket, everything is under $85. Peep the entire collection (with prices) above, and then shop it over here.
