If you think this waiting is killing you the frustration will be unbelievable waiting for it to appear in late August/September or even later based upon previous phones. The 9500 took what felt like ages to get to the shops, even after working models had been demonstrated to most shops.

I used E61 about half year.. no more, it was enough... I got back my 9300i, and I am happy with it. Of course, I also wait for the new communicator.

OK, some more news:
the new Communicator still has two screens. The PDA screen inside is really HUUUGE. My contact wasn't able to tell me the exact resolution but he said that it's so big that the resolution must be VGA or even higher. Because of the large screen, the device is considerably wider than old Commies
I don't know if he's right or wrong, I'm just quoting what he said.
The cover screen is normal S60 3rd Edition display, probably 240x320.
The Communicator is going to be equipped with GPS, although it doesn't seem to work in the current protos.
The device should be available in March-April 2007 so it's not clear whether it will be announced during the Nokia World event. Maybe they'll introduce it only next year, at 3GSM or maybe even at CeBiT.
I still have no details about CPU speed or memory size but it's more than certain that the CPU will be ARM11 (OMAP2420 like in the N93) so it'll be 330 MHz in the worst case.

Thanks for the info Michal! I love Psion Revo and 5mx, so I welcome the large communicator...but it's a bit surprising that they decided to make a big communicator when, with 9300i, users finally stop calling a communicator a 'brick'.

Even if it's going to be 50% wider than 9300i to accomodate the large screen, it still won't exceed the width of Windows Mobile devices like e.g. JasJar. I think that people used to call Communicators 'bricks' because of their thickness and not because of their width. Hopefully the new Communicator will be thin.
BTW. I've also heard that the hinges look much more solid and reliable.

Michael, I agree with you that the thickness makes the old Communicators look like bricks. Do you know what the keyboard of the new Communicator is like? I hope it will be like Psion's.

looks great. i think i would prefer the s80, but what ever.
also, instead of a stylis to touch-screen. just make is so that the keyboard works like a touch pad. that was where you touch, matches the screen placement. will be great for internet access.
also, make sure that it is 802.11n rated and backward compatible to g/b.
how about a nice big 4gb hard drive. memory is getting soo small now, why not?
personally, i like the non-metal phones btter. being that i have been in the cellphone business for 9 years...id find the nice grey better, so long as the paint doesnt chip like the current one.
i like the exterior view. with it that size, we wouldnt be forced to open our phone for certain things.
how about push to talk somewhere?
and lets start adding function options on the left side of the internal screen. plenty of room there, just being wasted. could be some more shortcut options or something.
i like the mmc cards, but t-flash is getting more popular. as the memory gets smaller and technology gets bigger and movies and music are more prevelent, this would be a good thing. having a huge internal memory and and unlimited external memory compacity with the only limit being the size of the card you put into it. (i can use my 2gb mmc, but it wont handle my 4gb mmc. :/ )

I read somewhere that Nokia won't be partipating in the CeBiT event anymore. And at the last couple of 3GSM events, we have only seen some comsumer level Series 40 and Series 60 phones announced, no business phones. So if it is not going to be announced at the Nokia World event this month, it will probably be announced at separate press conferance.

The old 9110(i) had buttons on the left side of the screen, too. But the functionality of these buttons has moved to the keyboard on the 9210(i)/9290 and 9500/9300(i). So there is really no need to introduce these buttons again. It would probably also make the device a little bit longer.
