Thugs petrol bomb Lauren Goodger’s new salon

Category: Celebrity, TV, Women · 0

Less than 24 hours after it launched, Lauren Goodger has become the latest TOWIE star to fall victim to thugs.

Her salon, Lauren’s Way, was set alight and had its windows smashed just hours after the TOWIE star signed autographs outside.  The salon had not even opened up for business yet.

Goodger wrote on Twitter last night, “Thanks for you’re lovely messages tonight.. In bed with lydia and Georgia 3 in a bed won’t be able to sleep tonight..#angelslookingover.”

Goodger is the second TOWIE star to suffer at the hands of their fame with sisters Billie and Sam Faiers being attacked last year.

An Essex Police spokesman said that minimum damage had been done to the salon however police officers were still standing guard last night.  He added that the people who lived about the shop were forced to be evacuated from their homes while it is not yet clear whether they have been let back.  They added that it was the only arson attack in the area and that their investigations were still ongoing.

The salon was featured on The Only Way is Essex last week when Goodger showed the premises to pal Lydia Bright and her mother Debbie and is named after her line of tanning products.  It had been due to offer spray tans, hair blow dries and hair extensions as well as teeth whitening and HD brows.

Cheryl Cole tweets back after Cher Lloyd snipes comments live on radio

Category: Celebrity, Music, TV, Women · 0

If it wasn’t for Cheryl Cole backing her she might not have landed her recording contract and a number one single but it seems teenager Cher Lloyd still has a lot of growing up to do as she sniped at her former X Factor mentor.

Despite somewhat idolising her when she appeared as a contestant on the show and turning into her mini me, Lloyd seems to have forgotten all the aggro Cole went through when she put her through in Judges Houses despite forgetting her words and failing to put on a worthy performance.

The comment came as Lloyd was asked if she would ever sing with Cole during an interview on the Real Breakfast for Real Radio North West show.  She retorted, “Maybe if she sings live with me!” in what seems to be a swipe at Cole using a pre-recorded track when she performed her debut single on The X Factor a few years ago.

It’s not the first time she has spoken about Cole in a bad light, she said recently, “Cheryl understood me and she helped me a lot and so it’s sad that I haven’t heard from her.  But if she wants to give me a ring she can. If not, that’s fine too.”

Cole was obviously not impressed this time and took to Twitter to say, “Be Careful who you kick on your way up… They kick you twice as hard on your way back down #unappreciationisugly.”

Survey claims South is sadder than happy North

Category: Music · 0

The happiest and the unhappiest

The North/South divide always gets people going and a recent survey claims that people who live up North are happier than those who live in the South.

Researchers looked at how locals felt about their area, the size and state of their homes, what their neighbours are like and safety levels among 12 measurements of happiness.

They concluded that within the top 10 happy cities, five of them were in the North of England with only 3 Southern towns making the top ten – Norwich, Dorchester and Exeter.   Rather interestingly, nine out of ten of the lowest scoring cities were in the South with Luton, Bedfordshire, being the forth unhappiest in the UK while The East London was deemed the unhappiest place in London.

Rightmove director Miles Shipside said, “This extensive study of over 25,000 people across the UK gives an insight into how happy at home we are as a nation and which factors provide us with the most contentment. Our research provides an interesting challenge to the typical view of the North/South divide.  Neither Carlisle nor the North regularly features at the top of  too many property market league tables.  But this does not appear to be playing on the minds of those who live there too much.”

Can a pair of tights give you a perfect tan?

Category: Beauty, Fashion, Women · 0

Fake tan has come on leaps and bounds lately with the likes of TOWIE promoting the beauty ritual however it can be both messy and leave you streaky whilst smelling of biscuits however a new product that promises to give you the fake tan look without the mess: Fake tan tights.

They are the latest in hi-tech hosiery and promise to take out the mess of applying fake tan as the tights have “micro-fibres in the tights are impregnated with tanning solution. When these come into contact with the skin, the tanning agent starts to develop, leaving your legs perfectly tanned with no more orange palms, patchy ankles and stained carpets.”

Hmm.  Sounds like tights drenched in fake tan to us.

The process: don the soggy tights with the fake tan formula for a couple of hours and voila, you should have perfectly tanned legs.

If you want to give it a go they cost £7.99 from tightsplease.co.uk however we’re not sure it sounds like the best way to get a tan; if you want your legs tanned and glowy we’d prefer to just opt for Marks and Spencer’s tights in Suntan.

Preparations in place for Sunday’s BAFTAs

Category: Celebrity, Fashion, Movies · 0

It’s one of the most important nights in the film calendar, held between the Golden Globes and the Oscar’s and preparations are being made at London’s Savoy Hotel for the upcoming BAFTAs this Sunday.

Steven Fry will present the ceremony while stars such as Michelle Williams (nominated for My Week With Marilyn) and Meryl Streep (nominated for Iron Lady) are due to attend.

Despite being film awards, there is competition in the fashion stakes too with Daniel Wingate, design director of Escada, saying of the preparations, “If two women have their eye on the same creation, there’s a lot of, er, negotiation over who gets what.  American actresses are often a size 6 or smaller, but British stars, with their 8s and 10s, tend to have more natural shapes.  There’s no right or wrong colour for the red carpet. I wouldn’t dress someone in bright yellow in case they looked like an ad for McDonald’s, but even the right red is OK.  The stars want materials that are comfortable and don’t crease. Millions of eyes are on them and it’s vital they look their best.”

After the awards, a lavish dinner is conducted at the Grosvenor House Hotel, and takes careful planning when you consider as many as 2000 guests (some with egos to boot) and must be sat over two floors.

BAFTAs Head of Production Clare Brown says the seating is “a massive jigsaw puzzle.  By the end, all you can hope is that all the planning worked out and it all looked fantastic. And that everyone there – and the viewers – had a great time,’ she says.”

UK college starts course in iPhoneography

Category: Music · 0

A UK college has become the first to offer a course in how to take pictures on your iPhone.

The college set up the iPhoneography classes because owners don’t know how to use the inbuilt camera to its full effect.

Set up by Richard Gray, who has been a photographer for 25 years, he says that the phone can be used to create incredible images without the need to buy expensive photographic equipment.

He argues that the phone can be used to edit photos with apps instead of photographer’s favourite, Photoshop.

The course is called iPhoneography: An Introduction to Photography with the iPhone, and runs for 5 weeks at Kensington and Chelsea College, London.  It costs £115 and consists of a weekly three hour classroom session.

Mr Gray says that students who enroll on the course will still learn about the essentials of photography such as lighting and composition.

Students are required to use their own iPhone and purchase £20 of apps.

Mr Gray said, “The focus really is on the iPhone apps, there are thousands and thousands of them that you can get. Some are very simple, just applying retro filters, whilst some are more complex and can be used to manually edit photos in the same way you would on a PC.”

The Queen’s Jubilee concert at the palace – free for all

Category: Music · 0

It’s the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this summer and what better way to celebrate than a free concert at the palace with a line up which includes musical greats such as Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John to new chart toppers Jessie J and Ed Sheeran.

Ten thousand tickets will be given away through a public ballot for the event and will be held outside Buckingham Palace on June 4, while of course, those who don’t get a ticket can watch the live musical extravaganza on BBC1.

Organised by Take That singer Gary Barlow, it aims to showcase the best of music from pop to rock, to classical and musical theatre from each decade of the monarch’s 60-year reign.

A unique stage has been designed around the Queen Victoria Memorial which stands at the front of the palace (artist’s impression pictured).

Barlow, 41, says of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 197, that he remembers everyone coming together and, “That’s what we’re trying to do here, make this concert all-encompassing for everyone involved, that’s why I was so keen on moving it out of the back of the palace… and out the front.”

House on giant rock goes on sale for £1,000,000

Category: Music · 0

One of Britain’s most exclusive homes has hit the property market for a cool £1,000,000.

Surrounded by water atop a giant rock with the only way to gain access via a suspension bridge, its current residents Lord and Lady Long have decided to sell up after a decade in the Cornwall property.

The three bedroom house was built on the top of Towan Island on the beach at Newquay, Cornwall, in the 1930s and when the tide is in, the island is completely surrounded by water with spectacular 360 degree views from the top of the rock.  The way the house is built means that whoever buys the property can be in the sun the whole day long.  Lord Long, 83, said, “This is one of the most incredible spots.”

Lord and Lady Long originally bought the home in 2001 for half the price they are asking for now but Lady Long says the slippery steps either side of the bridge may become a problem for them, “We have decided to sell before this becomes a problem.”

It is only the third time the property has been on sale for 40 years.

If you’re interested, offers around the £995,000 mark are being considered.

Bleak and freezing weather set to continue for a month

Category: Music · 0

Britain finally succumbed to wintery weather on Saturday night as most of the country was blanketed by thick, glorious snow.

While causing chaos on the roads, rail and air for most of yesterday, the snow has started to thaw as the working week starts today but Met Office forecasters predicted last night that Britain has not escaped yet.

We are set to endure more snow and ice and freezing conditions for another month yet.

Repeated falls of snow and temperatures as low as minus 10°C are set to cause more chaos until the start of March with the Met Office issuing nine severe weather alerts as ice threatens motorists across England and south-east Wales.

A spokesman said, “It is going to stay very cold and some areas can expect -10°C or worse.  This cold snap is stubborn and any temperature improvements will be very gradual for at least three to four weeks.”

The cold weather also resulted in good old fashioned panic buying at the supermarkets where supermarkets told how basic provisions including bread and milk were selling out.

A staff member at a Morrisons in Kent said, “Bread has been flying off shelves and queues have been massive. It’s busier than Christmas.”

Geri Halliwell revisits her old favourite, the Union Jack dress, for inspiration

Category: Celebrity, Fashion, Women · 0

It is her most iconic dress and one of the most iconic dresses of the British pop scene of that era and Geri Halliwell has returned to her infamous Union Jack dress for inspiration as she designs her new collect for Next.

She was joined by some models to show off her new Great British designs at the launch in central London.

The collection is for this summer’s Next range and no doubt was planned to arrive just in time for the Olympics.  All items from the collection including a maxi dress and a cowl back dress and bikinis will be available in stores or online from next month.  Let’s hope we’re not still sitting in freezing temperatures when that happens!

The original dress worn by Halliwell to the Brit Awards was actually a plain black Gucci dress which Halliwell rendered too boring and added a Union Flag tea towel to the front to make it more suitable for the occasion.  The dress now has its own Wikipedia page and sold at auction for £41,320 the following year.
