One of the sessions at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco next week is called "Managing Linux in a Mixed Environment...at Microsoft?" It will be given by Bill Hilf (pictured), Director of Platform Technology Strategy at Microsoft, and promises to offer "A look inside the Linux/Open Source Software lab at Microsoft."
Hilf leads the Linux and Open Source Software technology group at Microsoft, having previouslydriven IBM's Linux technical strategy at a world-wide level for the Emerging and Competitive markets organization, in addition to his direct customer interaction as a senior I/T architect. 
He has been involved with Open Source Software (OSS) for over ten years, and is an IEEE Distinguished Visitor on the subject of OSS.
During his presentation, Hilf will discuss how because of the dynamic nature of the industry, corporate networks, including some test labs within Microsoft, are often comprised of mixed environments that run Unix, Linux and Windows technology.

Microsoft's best product ever is the Win32 API. It's somewhat sad to see that they seem to be trying to replace it with something worse. But as long as it lasts, it's pretty much the developers dream (the actual implementation might not be).
