Dulwich is a pure-Python implementation of the Git file formats and protocols.

All functionality is available in pure Python, but (optional) C extensions are also available for better performance.

Named after the village in which Mr. and Mrs. Git live in the Monty Python sketch.

The Git repository can be found at git://git.samba.org/jelmer/dulwich.git
