Microsoft have already released Windows XP Service Pack 3. You should download and install SP3 as it already includes everything in SP2.

Windows XP SP3——>http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsxp/sp3/default.mspx

“Windows XP Service Pack 2 (or 3) Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers” is the exact same thing as the installer for single computers. In fact, most “computer savy” users prefer this installation method because it avoids using Windows Update. You can use the multiple installer to update your computer safely without any worries. To get the single computer installer, you’ll have to download it through Windows Update or order a CD from Microsoft (look at the SP3 link I provided – You can no longer order a SP2 CD):

how do you setup a wireless ethernet bridge?

Question by rybanv: how do you setup a wireless ethernet bridge?
The bridge is a dlink DWL 810+. I am using a laptop connected to a buffalo wireless router. I set my local area connection to a static ip address in the range of the bridge, then I attempt to log into the bridge ip address and run the wizard. However, it gives me a page error and I cannot continue with the configuration setup.

I can’t really give you a solid answer because there are too many unknowns. However, I can give you advice that may help:

1) Try using Internet Explorer, if you’re not already using it. Most routers like IE best.

3) See if you can upgrade the firmware to a new version. It might not be possible if the router starts with the wizard and you cannot cancel out of it.
4) Don’t set up the router initially using a wireless connection. Some of the firewall or wireless settings may be blocking you from accessing the web page. Use an inside address connected to the switch. 2) If you are changing major settings like “IP Addresses, Subnet masks, or DHCP settings”, if you are typing anything incorrectly, it may give an error and try to set itself to the incorrect settings. Try setting the IP to something like 192.168.2.1, Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, DHCP to serve out 192.168.2.50-192.168.2.100 or taking the defaults to see what happens. Make sure to also change your PC settings to the new settings when this happens to see if it’s been set and you simply cannot access the changed address.

WG

Is it possible to connect a WRT160N Linksys router to a airport express so that you can extend your wireless?

Question by Sam: Is it possible to connect a WRT160N Linksys router to a airport express so that you can extend your wireless?
I have a WRT160N Linksys router, a airport express and a other router. Is it possible to extend my wireless range by connecting my WRT160N Linksys router and my airport express? I read on the internet it is possible however they explained it in a complex way. I’m not really that good with computers.

I am not sure if this helps – but I have recently come across a device that uses powerlines to extend your wireless network . PLT (Power line Tech.) is pretty old but not much development seems to have taken place .But this device looked promising- I knew some hotels that use powerlines to provide internet access in all rooms without networking – now the same is upgraded to wireless. Probably might help .

A router that is using a DHCP server to assign IP addresses “leases” that IP address to a particular computer for a set period of time. That time is usually accessible in the setup screens for the router
You do not want to set the lease time too short, or the computers on the network will have problems with losing their connection.

Question by tampatriv: With MagicJack do you still keep your internet dsl line and just cancel your land line phone service?
Thinking of ordering Magic Jack. I’m technically challenged and need to understand all the ramifications of ordering it. Does dsl service just come through the wall phone jacks in the house, so that the computer stays hooked up to the phone jack – and I still pay the phone co. (my dsl service provider) for the dsl?
