Sick Day Two

Wed 10 Feb - 8 Wed 10 Feb - 7

I think I’m getting better, that’s what I keep mumbling to myself.

I’m trying the “fake it till you make it†technique.

My mom asked me this morning if I’d consider cancelling my trip, she’s such a kidder!

Seriously, it’s not like I’m dying, I have a cold!

The sneezing fits, the groans and moans, that’s more for effect – it’ll pass.

I feel better already.

Besides, I have a spa appointment, lunch at Chelsea Market and a date strolling the High Line –

I can’t do all that lying in bed at home, being sick.

The Common Cold

I’m sick!

I have a cold; runny nose, sneezing and an inexplicable swollen face… I’m not a pretty site.

For a while now I thought I’d become immune to colds – save for seasonal allergy symptoms, I haven’t had a good proper cold in years.

I slept in the morning and rolled into work around noon, I could barely stay upright so I left after a few hours.

I went for a long leisurely walk afterwards, which was nice.

I stopped by the Gap to check out the Stella McCartney Gap Kids collection, the pieces are sweet, adorable and lovely.

I can’t wait to see cute kids running around in these clothes.

Anyway, I’m giving myself up to tomorrow to feel better; I’m leaving for New York on Friday and I need my time there to be free of the common cold.

Besides do they still let people with fever on planes?

Now on to clothes…

Tue 9 Feb - 6 Tue 9 Feb - 3

This is one of my favourite dresses, I like the tweed look.

Tue 9 Feb - 7 Tue 9 Feb - 4

Wearing it with the shirt pinafore-like reminds me of a dress I wore when I was little.

Bold Prints

There’s just something about spring that makes me yearn to wear bold colourful prints.

Even if said prints aren’t very spring-like.

I’m on the lookout for floral and pastel prints, and other soft colourful prints which are more spring-like.

On my last trip to Target, I got a dress from the Liberty of London for Target collection; a pink Garla print shift dress, I’m waiting for a sunny clear spring day to wear it someplace happy.

Mon 8 Feb - 1 Mon 8 Feb - 6

This print reminds me of Marimekko prints; apparently I’m not alone because I’ve been asked twice (on separate occasions) if it’s a Marimekko print.

Sadly, it’s not.

I’m going by the fabric store right after I click ‘publish’, my mom surprised me with a skirt from pieces of fabric leftover from another sewing project.

The skirt needs a zipper hence the trip to the fabric store.

Mon 8 Feb - 4 Mon 8 Feb - 2

While I’m there, I’ll be looking floral print fabrics to make a 50’s style full skirt dress.

I think I mentioned that I’m taking a dressmaking class next month. I’m very excited!

DSquared2

From the department of better late than never, comes these pictures from last month…

DSquared2

During the Olympics last month, the Milan based designers DSquared made an appearance at Holt Renfrew to launch their special edition Olympics hoodie.

The designer twins, Dean & Dan Caten originally from Canada also designed the outfits for the Canadian talent at the Olympics’ opening and closing ceremonies.

The Holt Renfrew event as I remember (it’s been over a month after all) was pleasant and relaxed.

Lots of fashionable people showed up, which was great because I spent time chatting with some very stylish people.

Looking Dean(?)

I met a couple who drove all the way up from Everett just for the event.

The guy had on an awesome DSquared belt buckle, I think I might have stared at his crotch a little longer than appropriate.

The event served as a good opportunity for fashionistas to get to meet one (two?) of Canada’s finest designers and also especially great for aspiring designers to meet and talk to real-life successful designers

More pictures below… enjoy!

Some Days

Today was a long bizarre not-so-great day.

I’m just glad it’s over and I get to start all over again tomorrow.

I spent the day looking for a single document that proved to be quite the challenge.

I got yelled at by some woman in Alberta because she thought I was trying to trick her into getting me that elusive document.

Wed 3 Feb - 7 Wed 3 Feb - 5

I’m really looking forward to the weekend even if it’s supposed to be rainy and gross.

I have a few activities lined up, and I have to pack for New York, I’m still not sure what to pack

Wed 3 Feb - 4 Wed 3 Feb - 3

I don’t know why I’m not smiling in most these pictures, I look quite serious, no?

I really like this blouse too so I’m not sure what’s going on there.

I take these pictures right after work and sometimes not having a good day translates into unsmiling photos.
