The days of a single :30 SuperBowl ad are long gone much to the relief of advertising budgets nationwide.

In my job as one of Discovery Channel's Social Media Editors, bloggers ask me one question more than any other, "How do I get my post on the front page of Digg?"

It's an interesting question. However, I think the broader idea of how to be successful with social media, whether it be Digg, Reddit, Twitter, Pinterest or whatever's coming out tomorrow, is a lot more important. And the answer is a lot more useful. So what is the magic formula?

2012 is upon us! But before you wake up from that glorious champagne-powered hangover, lets not forget the oddities of 2011, brought to you exclusively by the Digg community.

Last week, we introduced The Digg Social Reader, an application that allows readers to easily record the stories they’re reading on Digg and make them available to friends on Facebook.

Every week, thousands of headlines land on Digg’s homepage based on popular opinion.

Earlier this week, we began rolling out changes to Top News to better connect Newsrooms to the 144 headlines that make Top News each day.

From time to time at Digg we see speculation on our traffic based on "estimated data," and ominous prognostication of what it means.

We’ve been spending most of our time working on the Newsrooms Beta, but it’s not all we’re working on. Today we wanted to share our latest updates to My News. Starting from humble roots, My News has grown from a chronological list of your friends’ stories to a rich blend of stories your friends are interacting with and top content from Newsrooms you’ve joined.

We’re also adding an activity feed to My News.
