I started this post an hour ago. Then I decided to read the last few posts and figure out where I left off on kiddie updates. And you know what happens when you read through your own blog. An hour later, I have read and cried and read and cried some more. Everything from the early days with Addi to Noah starting Kindergarten and my debate last year over working. I'm so so so glad I wrote it all down. Can you imagine, not having it all writte
n down? I could kick myself for all those days and weeks I haven't blogged. These little tidbits of our lives are so important to me! I could probably find many more on my Facebook posts, but it's just not the same!
Anyway, what are the kids up to???
Noah earned another award last week (they have a skill each week and the teacher awards a student who displays it) for Cooperation. He had a field trip to a play...If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. One of my friends was chaperoning the field trip (glutton for punishment, I say!) and sent me a text mid-morning that Noah was said to have a perfect stage voice. Apparently the woman in charge of keeping the kids occupied before the show started told them about the importance of speaking slowly, clearly, and loudly when answering questions. My kid, in the way back of an auditorium with hundreds of kids, stood up and did all of that. Another friend said she knew it was him before she could even see who it was.
He wrote the sweetest paragraph called "If money grew on trees"....
I would be happy. If I found the money, I would give it to Mrs. R (his teacher) so she could spend it on books. Or give it to my sister so she could get new hering adds. She needs new hearing adds becus she keep braking her purple hearing adds. Or I would spend it on a hotell for my hole famley.
He was also invited to attend gifted math. After some assessment results, they decided to add more first graders to the gifted reading class and start a gifted math class, so he'll get to be in both.
The basketball season has wrapped up, and the Shooting Falcons were 9-1. Shawn enjoyed coaching them, and the kids all really improved a lot. We had a great group of kids and parents, and although I won't miss those early Saturdays (don't worry, soccer starts in a few weeks!), I'll miss watching him play each week. We are a basketball family, and this has really been the most fun sport to watch him play and grow in. Can't wait for next year!

The boys went to a Hawks game a few weeks ago through our basketball program and were invited to shoot a free throw on the court after the game. Noah was bummed that his shot was an airball. Shawn said it was actually closer than he expected, and after seeing the picture said maybe it would have gone in if Noah would've been at the actual line! hahaa

So what's up with Addison/Addi/Red/Adelaide/Girlfriend? She's been busy as well. We're moving forward with a dynamic display for communication. She's getting the hang of it, and we're starting to talk about which device will fit her needs best. I love seeing her actually communicate, and it has really increased her verbal skills as well. She's still making lots of unknown sounds, but occasionally a REAL one slips out and we all just look at each other and laugh. Like last night, when she was sitting on Shawn's lap on the floor, playing picnic and drawing and reading, and he said, "I love Daddy! Say I love Daddy!" and she said a bunch of stuff. And he said it again, and then she said, "Love Dada!" Precious!
We saw Dr. Brains a few weeks ago. Did a head CT (God bless the techs at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for getting it done without sedation--not an easy feat!). He said everything looks good. Apparently that scab on the back of her head wasn't from a screw because he said the screws all looked good. (There is nothing creepier than a 3D CT scan. We could see every bit of titanium mesh!) There were a few small places where there wasn't any coverage, but he said he's not worried about it. Unless someone were to poke her with a pencil in that exact area, it's unlikely that she'll have any problems. He said those areas usually get smaller as kids grow. All ventricles look good, and her head circumference (while still off the chart low) has increased appropriately, so she's definitely growing. AND....he said he'll see us in (drumrolllllll) 18 months. 18 months!!! That's the longest reprieve we've EVER been given by one of her main specialists! He does want us to see Dr. Plastics this summer, just so he can review the CT and make sure there's nothing he wants to do. Exhale!
Had a bit of a shock the other day when I was looking in one of her ears (yes, I'm weird. I look in my kids' ears all.the.time!) and saw a HUGE ball of wax. Scraped the end of the wax off with my pinkie (bad, I know!) and it was actually a GREEN ear tube! She has T tubes, which are meant to last 2-3 years. It has been 2 years. I resisted the urge to get the tweezers and yank it out, and it was gone later that day. We're already scheduled to see Dr. Ears in a few weeks, so he said as long as she's not in any pain or develops an infection, he'll just see us then.
She has recently mastered climbing up on our very TALL bed, and the other day she took off upstairs. About 10 minutes later, I decided to go check out what trouble she was into, and couldn't find her anywhere. (She likes to sit in Noah's closet with a box of books or play in the bathroom, but both of those spots were empty). Finally found her on my bed with one of Noah's chapter books (she had to have climbed on his bed to get it off his headboard, then climbed back down and gone to our room with it!). Hilarious.
In non-kid news, I whacked even more of my hair off and am getting ready to start back-to-back maternity leaves. PreK then 4th, if babies come at the right time. Should be fun! Got my Georgia teaching license--PreK thru 5, then middle grades for language arts, math, and science. Was very excited to get middle grades. Not that I want to teach middle school, but perhaps it will open more spots for me.
