February Goals

For those who are curious. :)

I wasn’t going to post my monthly goals, because I didn’t think anyone would care.  But when it came to my attention that not everyone does things this way, I thought maybe it would be helpful for someone to see how I go about things.  My way is not the be-all and end-all; if you have something else that works, keep doing it!  (“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”)  But if you’re the type who likes to see others’ systems, here they are.  (And this is me laying out all of my dreams and faults and failures before the world! lol)

My main list of goals for the year is printed out and put into a notebook.  Usually my quiet-time notebook, because then I don’t lose it.  I don’t look at it every day!  Rather, each month I create a mini-list for the month.  Items on it might be specific projects on the yearly list that I’ve decided to do this month, or they might be steps necessary to complete larger goals from the yearly list.  Occasionally, other items sneak in that weren’t even on the main list. :)   The monthly list is copied into my Day-Timer, and (theoretically) looked at daily.  (In actuality, I don’t remember to check it daily.  But I do view it frequently.)

(I’m skipping over January because I didn’t post it before now, and it’s long.  If you guys want to see it, let me know, and I’ll post it.)  February looks like this:

$- Complete appropriate portions of organization/cleaning project. (Include kitchen and bathroom.) blog growth goals (It feels a little too weird to post my actual numbers on the blog.) Create new 404/500 error pages. Rework Daily Bread site. Create overall blog/IM plan, with monthly goals. Plan out keyword targeting for the year. Plan blog reviews & when to request. Work on weekly schedule for home & blog. Work on morning routine, integrating Bible reading and exercise.
Work (with Ariel and Sophia) on memorizing Ephesians 6. Work more actively on math with Ariel. Work on a plan for teaching Sophia to read. Work on a plan for getting the girls on budgets. Complete 2+ projects (50 Projects CAL). Crochet Sleepy Sarah. Sew jumper. $- Complete genealogy books. Add quotes, verses, etc. to prayer book. Submit 2+ press releases/articles. Look for source of well-fitted blue jeans. Identify Kibbe type. Copy 2 children’s tapes to CD. Create a default cleaning supply/method list. (May not be finished ’til February.) Finish business reading (computer files). Finish marriage book. Finish writing down recipes from Slow & Easy and You Won’t Believe It’s Gluten-Free.

The SwagBucks 4th Birthday Celebration is happening on February 27th, and to celebrate they’re giving out four $1000 prizes to users!  To enter, simply RSVP to one of the “birthday parties.”  (If you aren’t already a SwagBucks member you’ll need to sign up – but read the rest of this post first!)

If you aren’t already a SwagBucks member, what are you waiting for?!  (Have I mentioned that I love SwagBucks?)  As a SwagBucks member, you earn points simply by doing something you’d be doing anyway – searching the internet.  Unlike “paid-to-search” engines of the past, SwagBucks does not slow down your computer or provide cruddy search results.  It’s very easy to use, with quality search results, and I earn enough points for a $5 Amazon gift card about once a month, purely by running searches.

Through February 27th, enter promo code BIRTHDAYBASH12 when signing up, and get an extra 110 points immediately, so you’ll start off with 140 points!  (That’s about a quarter of the way to an Amazon card, just for signing up!)

Screen Cleaning (E-Cloth)

Earlier this week, we talked about cleaning out your computer.  But you don’t just have to clean out your computer; sometimes you have to actually clean the computer.  I don’t know about you, but I’ve been terrible about cleaning my laptop screen, because I didn’t know how to use it safely and was terrified of ruining it!

Then I came across the E-cloth.  This nifty cloth is designed to safely remove all of the static-charged dust from a laptop screen.  It “attracts, captures, and absorbs dust, dirt and grease and can be washed over 300 times.”  For the first time, I am able to dust my screen without worry!

If dusting isn’t enough, you can pick up the E-cloth in a “screen cleaning pack,” where it’s packaged with CleanSafe spray.  This is a spray cleanser that is formulated especially for computer screens.  It forms a protective layer and helps repel dust from the screen, but does not strip away any preexisting screen coatings.  It’s environmentally-friendly and chemical-free!

You don’t have to limit your cleaning to the computer screen.  This is also great for the fancy-schmancy newer TV’s.  (Our flat-screen television is something else that I think hasn’t been cleaned since we bought it [again, because I was afraid of messing it up].  That was about…four years ago, so it was well overdue for a cleaning!)

One of you will win your own screen cleaning pack.  Enter via the RaffleCopter widget below.  (If you’re not reading this on the site, you won’t see the widget.  Click through and you should be able to see it.)  You can also buy your E-Cloth at Amazon.

Clean Out Your Computer! (with GIVEAWAY)

Today is Clean Out Your Computer Day.  It’s a great time to clear out old files you don’t need, delete old emails, etc.

If you are putting all of your files in the same folder, consider setting up sub-folders.  (Pretend it’s a paper file system.  What would you subdivide?)

Have you defragmented lately?  Emptied your Recycle Bin?  If you’d like to automate  tasks like these, take a look at System Mechanic.  It automatically does things like empty your Recycle Bin and defragment on a schedule.  It’s more than that, though.  It checks your drive for errors, and fixes any that it finds.  Supposedly, it protects against spyware and viruses, too, but I’ve had a trojan since installing this, so I wouldn’t necessarily trust it for that.  (Of course, AVG didn’t catch the thing, either, so maybe it’s ordinarily fine for this, and I just had an especially obnoxious infection.)

System Mechanic is supposed to help keep your computer running smoothly and quickly by sitting quietly in the background and cleaning out the clutter whenever it finds it.  It optimizes start-up, and compacts (and repairs, when necessary) the registry.  It helps improve internet browsing speed.  It even helps you update all of your device drivers.

Now, consumer studies have demonstrated all of this, but I can’t really speak to all of these details from personal experience.  I do have it installed on my computer.  I do see it do things like check for system clutter and delete the junk.  But I can’t really tell you whether it speeds up my computer, because I don’t have a concrete way to compare; I can’t do my work today with it and without it.  So I assume it works, based on what I can see and verify. :)

Another great “feature” is that it comes with a multi-computer license, so you can install it on several household computers for one price.  Buy it through my link (above), and you will save 50%.

One reader will win a copy.  To be entered to win, leave a comment on this post with a tip for keeping – or getting – your computer “clean.”  For additional entries, you may do any or all of the following (and leave a separate comment for each, so I can count):

Follow me on Twitter. “Like” me on Facebook. Subscribe to my feed, via RSS or email.

US only, 18+  Entries will close on Feb. 29 at midnight EST.
