OK, I couldn't help it. There's so much tabloid journalism going on in our industry these days that it's probably not long before we actually start seeing such titles. I'm waiting for: JEREMY KEITH IN ALIEN BABY CONSPIRACY!!! (all caps and three exclamation marks and all).

So what was I saying again? Oh yes, I've just sent an updated session description to Koen for my talk at Multi-Mania. Don't worry, the Google App Engine stuff is still in there (ooh, Google App Engine, yummm!) But there's more... :)

Here's the updated session info:

Ruling the web: 12 things you must know as a Flash developer in the next 10 years.

Flash has been evolving at a breakneck speed in the last decade but the rest of the web has not been sitting idly by either. Quite on the contrary, there is a revolution underway in how web developers are building applications for the World Wide Web that is redefining the limits of traditional web development and hurtling it on a glorious collision course with Flash. So much so that I predict that in the next ten years we will see a merging of these worlds. Are you ready for this brave new web?

Join Aral for a whirlwind tour of 12 things that you must know as a Flash developer if you want to understand, survive, participate in, and help shape the future of the web.

Topics covered include HTML, CSS, web standards, progressive enhancement, accessibility, HTTP, RESTful interfaces and beautiful URIs, APIs, Python (the new BASIC), scalability (entering the cloud), the rise of the commodity web and Google App Engine, and best practices for Flash and Flex development with The GAE SWF Project.

Warning: Expect a flying pig.

I'm psyched to hear that over 300 of you have already signed up to attend. Multi-Mania is always such a wonderful experience -- I can't wait -- it's going to be a blast!

SHOCK, HORROR as Aral changes session description for Multi-Mania (or: “Ruling the web: 12 things you must know as a Flash developer in the next 10 years.”)

Sweet, looking forward to it. Has the flying pig been fixed yet, or does it miss a leg still? :)

Xilver

This is all well and good, but in blogging about the future, you’ve completely missed the new public beta for Flash Player 10! I thought you’d be the first on that one, Aral ;-) I think this is the first time I’ve ever blogged about something before you have :-D

Lee McColl Sylvester

Meh, Flash Player 10. Wake me up when we can actually start messing around in it ourselves :)

Xilver

I think the coming years the changes and evolution on and beyond the internet will be as exciting (or worse) as they were the last decade… But who am I to say out loud such bullocks…

:D

@Xilver I’m sure the Flash cabal (including Aral) already have the Player 10 compiler – and will be lauding it over us plebs for the next 6 months ;)

Aral I love hearing your sessions, but you plug loads of events that I have no chance of getting to, so it would be nice if you could mix in a few more full articles on this blog.

By the way I think your list of 12 things to know is way off. What about: High Level Shader Language, 3D modelling and animation, Software Engineering, Object Oriented Programming, Design Patterns, Multi-User Servers, localisation techniques, vector illustration, 2D animation, physics programming and Regular Expressions, or are we already supposed to know all that?! :)

Iain

You mean you don’t? ;-) In Aral’s defence, it is titled “12 things you must know… ” and not “the top 12 things you must know…”. Personally, I’m more interested if Flash will be smart enough to develop itself in the next 10 years :-D

Lee McColl Sylvester

whow, that’s a huge session title! Looking forward to seeing you next week in Kortrijk!

wouter

can’t wait to see this… multimania will be the best event of the year (again)

zaza

@Iain

I totally agree with your list. If I knew any of the stuff on Aral’s list, I might agree with him too :)

Damn, I would love to be there but I can’t :(
Really loved your sessions the past years, very inspiring!

Comicsken

Bumping around this internet and I find YOU. Don’t travel much these days, and can’t get to Europe currently, but it’s good to see you are doing well. Have another conference today in Baltimore, MD anyway.

eggBrain

@Xilver : the piggy was flying like always … :D

The session was cool ;) , I enjoyed it ….
Great Job Aral!

Inz

Boy, Aral Balkan is like a new Jesus for the web: inspiring and very motivating and boosting your will to get deeper into all that stuff out there!

Michel Beyaert

Hi, wonderfull session, funny too ;)

Yorick Horrie

Had fun at your session at Multimania.

How did you react to the guy that went up to you and said “I hate flash and I don’t want you to have a job!”
Where you shocked or did you laugh?

Hofa

Great session, thank you Aral!

Melvyn Hills

Your session @ 2M08 was the first session I ever saw of you, and I was impressed :) . Good job!

And like Hofa, I’m also interested in your reaction on that guy :) .

Mattijs

It was a lovely session, and a awesome pig! Oink
I’ve cleaned my to-do (also heart-shaped :)) blackboard and added all the post-its.

O, and I found one on a parking meter. (you have a lots of fans out here!)
Thanks for the fun session.

Hi dimwit,

If you’re looking for some, try out my framework, Arp (http://osflash.org/arp).

I do find that design patterns are mostly misunderstood and abused for web work but your mileage may vary. Just remember that there’s no “one size fits all” solution to every problem.

Aral

l like this site. super aral. :) thanks
