Words to Live By

Words to Live By
[image]
1-     WISDOM is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you would have preferred to talk.

2-      If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

3-      When alone, we have our thoughts to watch; when in family, our tempers; when in society, our tongues.

4-      Before you flare up at another’s faults, take time to count ten of your own.

5-      We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.

6-      SUCCESS in life comes not from holding a good hand... but in playing a poor hand well.

7-      When sorrow comes, we have no right to ask, “Why did this happen to me?” unless we ask the same question whenever joy comes our way.

[image]8-      It’s not the size of the man in a fight that counts... It’s the size of the fight in a man.

9-      CONTENTMENT is not the fulfillment of what you want, but the realization of what you already have.

10-   The chains of habit are usually too small to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.

11-   Keep your words soft and sweet. You never know when you’re going to have to eat them.

12-  HAPPINESS is living each day as though it were the first day of a marriage and the last day of a vacation.

13-   FRIENDS are those rare people who ask how you
are—and then wait to hear the answer.

Work In Progress

I thought I'd do something a little different and post an excerpt from my latest work in progress, tentatively titled, Killer Scents.

Unedited excerpt:

A car horn blared behind her, jolting her in her seat just as the light turned yellow, then red. The irate driver behind her honked his horn and yelled out his window. “What the hell’s the matter with you? Shouldn’t you be baking cookies or something? Do everyone a favour and leave the big toys to the men.”
Becca sucked air through clenched teeth, reminding herself she wasn’t a cop on duty anymore, so roughing up the ignoramus wasn’t an option. She set her bike on its’ kickstand, counting to ten under her breath as she sauntered back to where the driver stared, wide-eyed at her.
“Listen lady, let’s not let things turn ugly. You just turn yourself around like a good girl.”
Becca reached his door and jerked it open wide. “Get out.”
“What? Are you nuts?” He chuckled. “Trust me, lady, you do not want me to get out of this car.”
Before the driver had a chance to react, Becca grabbed him by the front of his shirt and pulled him out of the car, throwing him belly-up on the hood, twisting his arm up behind his back. She leaned over him until her mouth was a mere whisper from his ear. “Listen asshole, you’re lucky I’m in a good mood. I suggest you learn some manners, and how to treat a lady before you open that fat trap of yours again.”
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” He strained to turn his face toward a group of bystanders. “Someone call the cops, she’s f****ing crazy.”
Becca laughed, and so did most of the crowd. “What’s the matter? You don’t want to call the cops on a ‘little girl’ like me, do you?” She kept hold of his arm and pulled him upright, shoving him back in his car. “Now I suggest you take your sorry ass home and check your undies.” She slammed the door shut and strutted back to her bike while the crowd erupted in applause. Before she twist the throttle she turned to look back over her shoulder.
“Have a nice day.” She smiled sweetly and batted her eyelashes over the rim of her shades. The driver mopped his brow, his face beat red.
She rode away laughing. I bet he thinks twice the next time he’s pissed at a chick on a bike.

So, what do you think? I love the heroine Becca in this story. Don't let the humor fool you, Killer Scents is definitely not a comedy. *wink

Happy Groundhog Day!

Here it is again, Groundhog Day! Seems like we're just getting our first taste of winter here in Southern Ontario. Will the little critter see his shadow or not?  Lots of things to do for the entire week at the 56th Annual Wiarton Willie Festival

Legend has it that on the morning of February 2nd if the groundhog sees its' shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If it cannot see its' shadow, spring is on the way.
Do you think he'll see his shadow?  I wish he wouldn't, but I think he will.
I'll post the results as soon as Wiarton Willy makes his official appearance for 2012.

RESULTS
Shubencadie Sam  Nova Scotia's favourite furry friend DIDN'T see his shadow, promising East Coasters an EARLY SPRING!
Punxsutawney Phil  U.S. groundhog thinks there will be six more weeks of winter in store for the United States
Wiarton Willie It's good news for Ontario, Willie didn't see his shadow, either, so Canadians are 2 for 2 when it comes to an early Spring.
As you can see the results are varied between the States and Canada. Since I'm a Canadian, I'll gladly go with an early Spring... shhhhh, don't burst my bubble...
