Unless you’ve been living under a pretty heavy rock this week, you’ve heard that former pop superstar Whitney Houston died last Saturday, apparently from complications related to mixing prescription medication with alcohol. And in the subsequent days, we’ve seen Grammy tributes as well as shameless price hikes of her music catalog. And now fans will be able to see something else—on Saturday, Houston’s private funeral in Newark, New Jersey will be broadcast on the internet, which seems both a little much and a tad creepy.
One thing is meant to happen when a musical legend dies, we saw it with Michael Jackson, and now we’re seeing it with the late Whitney Houston – record sales go up, way up. When the world found out about Houston’s death, many rushed over to iTunes to grab some of her music. What they weren’t expecting however, was the price increase on her record. Needless to say, fans were outraged.

In what is–if true–sadly predictable news, it is being reported this morning that, while an official cause of death following Sunday’s autopsy of Whitney Houston has yet to be announced, the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office is already telling relatives of the deceased pop star that she died from mixing prescription medication such as Xanax with alcohol.
The 2012 Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles on Sunday night, held under the shadow of Whitney Houston’s Saturday passing, a fact that cast a pall over the normally exuberant and self-congratulatory event. But while the ceremony was a bit more muted than in previous years, there were no shortage of big wins or big performances, as soul singer Adele won all six awards she was nominated for, while the Foo Fighters nipped at her heels with five wins out of six nominations.
